Happy New Year folks I hope you all had a good one. This week for Soundtrack Sunday I am bringing you the sounds of a film that is based on a different kind of comic, not your average comic book and your average plot. Tank Girl was made in 1995 and based on the British Comic by Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin and is about Rebecca Buck known as Tank girl who lives and drives a tank in a post-apocalyptic Australia.
The film stars Lori Petty as Tank Girl and Malcolm McDowell as her nemesis Kesslee. Water is a rare thing in their time and place and when its found out Rebecca and her close clan are hoarding water from the pipeline, they are attacked and most are killed, Rebecca is taken along with any survivors to work in the pits and Rebecca refuses to let that get her down, she still gives lip back to the guards knowing she is in trouble. Eventually she breaks free along with a girl who fixes the tanks and jets and that’s when things get interesting as they try to survive and bring down the corporation that has control of the world’s water supply.
Lori Petty is joined by names such as Ice-T, Naomi Watts, Don Harvey, Jeff Kober, and Iggy Pop in this film and the soundtrack is very well set to it, you have songs that set the mood and setting of the film and I love listening to this again and again, so have a look at my favourite songs that accompany Tank Girl.
