Welcome back to Soundtrack Sunday! This week we have an oldie but goodie for you, whilst spending the week doing my last college assignment, I always have something on in the background whilst doing these things and one that struck me for inspiration for this week’s Soundtrack Sunday was a bunch of Singing Nuns! Yes that’s right, the film that showed us that Nuns are not as boring as we think they are, as Delores Van Cartier witnesses a mob hit and has to go into witness protection at St Katherine’s Roman Catholic Church in Sister Act (1992).
With a cast of names we have come to know such as Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Harvey Keitel and Bill Nunn. Delores ends up with being given the name Sister Mary Clarence and bonds with her fellow sisters, Mary Patrick, Mary Robert and Mary Lazarus, when she takes over the church Choir. With updating some popular songs to make them more churchly, they manage to pull in a huge crowd to the church and raise the money needed to fix the roof and raise the community moral by being what they all needed.
If you haven’t seen this feel good film that proves to us that sometimes the little changes to things you do can make a huge difference and give you a whole new world of friends who will stick by you, even if someone is holding a gun to you!
So have a look at a couple of songs that will get you in the mood to see that a choir can do a lot with some modern songs! Please watch the entire song for each as they start traditional and they then get the update to their beat!
