So, Kristen Stewart Might Make History Very Soon

K. Stew could be the first American actress to ever win a Cesar.

Riding high on the critical acclaim surrounding her role in Still Alice, Kristen Stewart is continuing to make buzz with a major award nomination announced this morning.

Kristen received a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role in Clouds of Sils Maria at this year’s César Awards, which are basically France’s version of the Oscars.

Why is this such a big deal you ask? Well the 24-year-old is the first American woman to be nominated in 30 years, and if she wins, it would be a historic feat. The last woman to be nominated was opera signer Julia Migenes for her role in 1984’s Carmen. The last American nominated was Adrien Brody, who won the Best Actor prize for his role in The Pianist in 2003.

The film — in which Kristen stars as an aging actress’ assistant — is slated to open in the U.S. in April, meaning she could have a shot at an American acting prize during next year’s awards season.

The 2015 César Awards takes place February 20 in Paris, a few days before the Oscars.
