Synopsis

Simon (Alberto Rosende) is determined to get rid of the Mark of Cain and, with Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia)’s help, tries to track down New York’s oldest vampire to get more information on the mark. Now in Paris, Clary (Katherine McNamara) desperately tries to find an escape from her current situation. Meanwhile, with his new sense of mortality, Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) tries to live life to the very fullest.

This is an episode that should please pretty much everyone in some way; Book fans, show fans, Malec, Clace, and Sizzy shippers there is something for EVERYONE! I’m going to do my best to prepare you without giving things away as always.

Morgenstern Magic

Jonathan (Luke Baines) moves the apartment to Paris to impress his little sister and takes her out shopping. Is Clary trying to bond with her big brother or just placate him until she can find a way to escape? My money is on the latter but I guess we wait and see.

Which doesn’t take long to be honest. It’s clear there are definite trust issues, and also some skeevy behaviour from Mr Morgenstern, but I don’t know, I see genuine desire to be good from him too. Plus there’s a line about hot chocolate that’s pulled almost straight from the books and made me smile!

Malec Moments

I know there have been teases here and there in trailers that got everyone very excited like “I told you not to flirt with me…”. Believe me when I say you are NOT prepared for this. The training scene is simultaneously badass and hot as hell. It’s sexy and sassy, did I mention sexy? I put down my notepad and just watched, and that doesn’t happen often!

Also, you remember when the “pup…panda…” scene got released and people were talking about why Magnus pulled away from Alec? Well this episode gives the sweetest explanation for Magnus’ behaviour that made me melt!

Seelie Magic

The Mark of Cain storyline really steps up a gear in this episode bringing a tonne of mythology into play. Seriously, that episode title has major meaning. There’s a very important meeting that sets Simon on a dangerous path. Their storyline this episode also brings the welcome return of the Seelie Court, and a few faces that have been sorely missed.

There’s also a really important moment between Simon and Izzy that’s going to have major repercussions down the line.

THAT Reunion

Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) team up to hunt for Clary. After confirming Luke’s suspicions about the moving apartment Jace joins him and they find further evidence to support Luke’s theory in Siberia. This in turn leads them and Alec, with some able assistance from Magnus, to Paris. Clace reunite in the city of love and that Eiffel Tower backdrop is everything!

Seeing them both smile again, even if it’s only for a moment, made my heart swell.
