Sex, Drugs, Outlander!

Review of Outlander Season 6 episodes 1 & 2

Droughtlander is no more and Starz made sure we knew it. Outlander Season 6 episodes 1 & 2 hit the ground with the invention of ether (years before it should actually exist), domestic abuse, and of course Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) love… story. But the tone this year is not just focused on our “main” two, but also (FINALLY) Farsali (César Domboy and Lauren Lyle) and MacBree (Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton)!

Our pleas have been heard, finally. Other storylines are finally being explored, but I digress, let’s start at the beginning.

Outlander Season 6--Caitriona BalfeClaire who puts on a great front is suffering from major PTSD after the ordeal with the Browns and invented ether, to either soothe her pain or help with surgeries as she says it’s for. Jamie finding Claire out of it doesn’t clearly raise enough flags and she self-medicates a few times.

The Christies are here…Yes, we’ve waited for them. Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) and his two children Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and Malva (Jessica Reynolds) and by the look of things, it’s about to get real. I am not sure how she does it, but Jessica Reynolds with a single look just makes my spine crawl, which is apropos, cause the Christies are dark, like dark like the night sky and uber creepy. Getting to see how Tom and Jamie’s paths have crossed in the past is setting us up for a spectacular season with these two larger-than-life characters.

Jamie is now a go-between with the English and the Cherokee People. Knowing what Claire knows as well as Ian’s (John Bell) loyalty is bound to make Outlander Season 6 more intriguing than ever before. Speaking of Young Ian, we have learned in Episode 2 that he was married and has a child. He revealed this to his cousin (Marsali) and didn’t discuss it further.

Marsali (Lauren Lyle) has her hands full in being pregnant (again) and a vera drunk and abusive Fergus (César Domboy). While Marsali is in labor and told she may die, we get to see Roger (Richard Rankin) take charge and take names as he gets Fergus to finally join Marsali in the big house in time to see his child, a son, born. I am sure with a new mouth to feed and a pang of new guilt over the child being born a dwarf, we haven’t seen the end of the abusive Fergus. However, the scene with Farsali before the birth has been one of my new fave scenes for one of our fave couples. The intense connection and intimacy the duo shared on-screen were amazing!

Watch Outlander Season 6 Roger let into Fergus:

Our other fave couple Bree (Sophie Skelton) and Roger had tons of screen time as well. Bree has rather exciting news to share, but the family is excited to welcome a new bairn, the news is that she invented matches. While it’s amazing and practical, the looks of disappointment from her Da (Sam Heughan) as well as the rest of the family left Bree feeling down. Roger got to head the church, Mr. Christie’s church was all business when family mixed it up at a funeral of all things. Roger was born to be a minister.Outlander Season 6--Sophie Skelton--Richard Rankin

What We Must Know in Outlander Season 6:

  • What exactly are the intentions of the Christies?
  • Will Ian tell-all about the family he left behind?
  • Will Claire ever recover from her encounter with the Browns?
  • Has Fergus finally lost his demons?

Hopefully, these questions as well as a million I haven’t even begun to think of yet, get answered in the upcoming weeks of Outlander Season 6. Read about
