The clash between Salem and Ironwood’s forces has begun. With our heroes caught in the middle and impossible choices in every direction, will they figure out how to save the Kingdom of Atlas… or is the war for Remnant already lost?
Immediate first impressions?
S – This isn’t going to go well is it?
C – Ralph Wiggum impression I’m in danger…
N – excited, I can’t wait for the next half of this volume but I know it’s going to be extremely emotional
The majority of the actual footage, and indeed Salem’s voiceover, was not new, but there were a few shots we haven’t seen before (e.g. the giant bomb, the fire in the prison cells, Salem grabbing Oscar’s head). Which of those are you most excited to see?
C – I wanna know what’s going on in the prison. Someone has to be going to get Qrow and Robyn out right? I really want to know who and why the fire!
N – I agree with Clare, I’m excited to see Qrow and Robyn as we’ve barely seen them so far this volume.
S – I wouldn’t say excited but I NEED to know what was going on in the prison, Qrow needs to be ok.
A lot of the focus is on Cinder and her pursuit of the Winter Maiden powers. Do you think she will achieve her goal and gain the power of a second Maiden by the end of Vol 8?
N – I don’t know if she could make a cup of coffee without Neo or Mercury (sorry Clare) I did originally like her character but as the volumes have progressed she has become one of my least favourite characters, I personally don’t think she stands a chance against Penny because Penny has much more support emotionally and physically compared to Cinder.
S – is it even possible for someone to hold 2 maiden powers? I hope she doesn’t, I really don’t like her. Yes we have seen more of her backstory but it didn’t make me gain any sympathy for her.
C – So much Cinder hate. I just think she is a really promising character if she remembers where she came from and what she is trying to do. She may find a way to destroy Penny (sorry Nathaniel) but I don’t think Penny will let her take the power. I think she’s more likely to be thinking of one of her friends.
We hear Ironwood say that he will defend the Kingdom, do you think he is going to realise at some point that his Kingdom includes Mantle?
S – HAHA no, he was willing to sacrifice Mantle from the get go. Even if he does eventually realise what he has done Mantle will already be burning.
C – Pfft he hasn’t so far. I honestly don’t expect him to see past the end of his nose at this point. But then I also don’t think he’s going to be around much longer to get in the way.
N – I’m hoping he does before it’s too late because if the staff is taken Atlas will fall and so will Mantle.
C – Well, I mean technically Atlas will fall ON Mantle…
Salem has found a way to evolve her Grimm minions even more it seems, from the shot of that Hound spewing some green goo, do you think we will see any other new types of Grimm?
C – IS THAT NOT ENOUGH?! I think our heroes and the people of Atlas and Mantle have got more than enough to be dealing with, without Salem playing Build-A-Grimm for her own amusement at this point!
N – I do like the Hound as he seems like he can adapt to different situations including altering it’s body. So it’s possible he could change depending on what it’s fighting.
S – yea I think we have enough, we really don’t need anymore.
Okay, predictions for the rest of Volume 8? We’ll come back to these at the end of the Volume and see how we did.
N – honestly I feel like Cinder may not make it, it would somewhat explain why we’re finding out why she fights but i do agree with Clare I think ironwood may be another one.
S – we will lose people, hopefully Cinder. I do wonder if Penny will transfer the maiden powers to Ruby. That would be cool. I kind of want Raven to come save Yang after seeing the broadcast. But I think that’s wishful thinking.
C – I think one or two characters (Ironwood and Penny are on my list) are not going to make it to the end of the volume. I also don’t think they can string out the attack on Atlas too long so I do think we might be headed off to the desert soon.
