Review: ‘A Pound of Flesh’ by Sophie Jackson

A Pound of Flesh

Facing fears is one thing, but falling in love while doing it is a whole other level.

Katherine Lane witnessed the murder of her father when she was 16.  She was able to get away from the attack, but was never the same.  Trying to face her fear of criminals, she takes to teaching at the local prison, tutoring inmates in the works of classic authors.  There she meets Carter, a hard ass criminal that is close to parole.  They try to fight the attraction for each other, but some things are just impossible.

Little does Katherine know, their lives are more entwined than she would have ever imagined.

Join in on Kat and Carter’s journey of finding love while being blocked at every corner.

I was one of the lucky people to receive an advanced reader’s copy of A Pound of Flesh, the first book in Sophie Jackson’s trilogy.  After reading some of Sophie’s other stories, I was ecstatic to see how the world of fiction would transcribe over into the published arena. I think another aspect that excited me in getting the chance to read it early was Jackson herself.  Sophie is a very down to earth woman who is so easy to interact with.  She really seems to love the interaction she has with her many followers and fans.  This in itself made me want to read the book even more.

I will be the first to say, I was not disappointed.

Jackson has a way of reeling you in through the story line.  I have read many stories before about crime/love/fighting the attraction, but for some reason, A Pound of Flesh just sucked me in.  Her writing style made it very easy for me to NOT put the book down.

I also couldn’t help to fall in love with all the characters.  From Katherine’s shyness at times to her raging temper, one can almost feel like they could put themselves in her shoes.  And Carter, typical bad boy, needs Kat’s attention and understanding, even if he doesn’t realize it all the time.  The background characters all have personalities that I could connect with as well.

Overall, it was a well written story, good plot line and an excellent read.  So if you are near the bookstore on June 9, make sure to pick it up!
