 Review

**I received an e-book ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review**

I was a bit … apprehensive, shall we say, when I signed up to read and review Kira’s newest book. It’s the first book of this kind that I’ve read, and even though I love zombie shows (coughcoughTHEWALKINGDEADcoughcough), I didn’t know how I’d like reading about them. As it turns out, I got sucked right into the story. I literally didn’t want to stop reading, and I’d count down the hours until I’d have enough time to delve right back into the thick of it.

The book opens with Ike and Ace witnessing the event that eventually triggers the end of the world as everyone once knew it. Within days an uncontrolled outbreak of sorts has taken the United States by storm, turning perfectly normal people into crazy, flesh-craving, dark souls. Phoenix Blue isn’t too worried about all the chaos going on around her, until it arrives right in her back yard, forcing her to make some incredibly difficult decisions and eventually uniting her with Ike.

Into the Darkness follows Phoenix as she fights to stay alive and embarks on a cross-country journey in search of her younger sister. The book is filled with action, which was one of my favorite things about it. There are times when Kira takes readers off in a super serious, deep direction, and then BAM! — she gives readers a totally ass kicking action sequence.

The sexual tension between Phoenix and Cullen was palpable, though I still haven’t quite decided whether or not I want to see these two end up together. I saw Cullen make multiple sacrifices for Phoenix, while she really only made one that I can think of for him, and that disappointed me. I look forward to seeing what Kira does with their relationship in the future, because it has the potential to go in a few different directions.

One thing I would have liked to see more of in this book was Phoenix’s back story. She’s a pretty angsty, angry chick, but it was never quite explained why she was that way. Kira gives us some hints about Phoenix’s past, but doesn’t elaborate on them, so I’m hoping that we’ll get more details about where she came from and why she is the way she is in the next book.

Overall, I loved this read! I for one can’t wait for the next installment to come out. I’m already craving more of Cullen, and I need to know the fate of the amazing cast of characters that Adams gave us.

It was supposed to be a way to end the devastation in the Middle East, but instead a darkness is unleashed unlike anything the world has ever seen before.

Ike Glass is well versed in chaos, but even he is unprepared for what the world will become after the outbreak. Ace Cullen has been loyal to his country ever since he was brought to the states as a young boy, but it’s difficult to stand by a country that can’t even take responsibility for their own actions. Phoenix Blue just wants a night of mindless sex… is that too much to ask? Always a black sheep, she shocks everyone as she finds the strength inside herself to protect the ones she cares about, and fight to see another day. They were strangers when the virus took over, but tragedy will bring them together in ways they never thought possible as they descend into the darkness.

I'm a midwest girl in my early 30s with a love of costume jewelry, lattes, and farmers markets. The written word is it for me. I love to craft my own stories, as well as devour those that others have written. Outside of writing and reading, I love film, music, baseball, trying new restaurants, traveling, craft beer, and spending time with my friends and family.
