The Originals – Live and Let Die recap

From Rebirth, and being Alive and Kicking…now it’s Live and Let Die. This doesn’t sound promising!

The newbie vamps are having a party which in unceremoniously interrupted by a body flying through the window and a bunch of cranky werewolves who are no longer satisfied with vamps just staying out of the Quarter, they want them out of the city entirely and are prepared to drop a lot of bodies to achieve this.

LALD 2

OH! And Josh is online dating and has the cutest profile!

LALD 1

Cami has a meeting with Finncent and spills the beans about her less than stellar track record with men, basically giving him a load of ammunition against Klaus. Nice one Cami!

Elijah is looking for Klaus and the tension between him and Hayley bristles in an exchange that has absolutely none of their former tenderness. He says he has a lot to deal with right now, wolves out for blood being led by his deranged mother and doesn’t need Hayley’s particular brand of sass (his words, not mine). She reminds him that if anything happens to the werewolves he’ll have a lot more to deal with in the form of a vengeful hybrid.

Cami calls Davina who is hiding out in the woods with Mikael. A call overheard by Klaus, he knows exactly where Davina is and he needs Cami to reason with her to eliminate the threat of Mikael.

LALD 3

Esther and Kol are trying to locate Davina the teenage witch themselves but she is magically blocking them. Well, Esther is trying, Kol is texting Davina and arguing with Finn mostly. Esther has figured out that Davina must be holding the White Oak Stake and tasks her youngest son with the job of finding the girl and the weapon.

Davina and Mikael are hiding in the woods since his sons know of his existence and Davina can’t possibly let him fight and kill Klaus until she has unlinked him from Marcel and Josh. She has also spelled her bracelet so that it won’t fall off again. But Mikael is scornful of her magic, telling her it will only fight half her battles for her. She asks him to teach her then, teach her to be strong.

LALD4

The vamps are trying to figure out how they can stand up to the wolves and not be chased out of town when Elijah rocks up, snaps a couple of necks and drops some knowledge on them. Hmm, seems Elijah is Team Vamp after all.

Ollie and the wolf who did all the talking earlier meet with Finn in the cemetery, he tells them the new plan which is to take a bunch of wolves and make them all kill humans to trigger their curses and then overwhelm the vamps with superior numbers. Ollie and the new guy (Aiden) are not thrilled with this plan since almost all the new recruits are children.

Out in the Bayou Mikael starts teaching Davina, mostly by kicking her ass. His first lesson, Always be on your guard, is exactly the same as Elijah’s to the newbie vamps. Guess Elijah was a good student as a kid. Davina wrecks her ankle but Mikael gives no quarter and tells her she needs to be able to endure pain in order to succeed. She gets back up and Mikael looks almost impressed.

Klaus is a tad pissed as Cami left him in the car while she drummed up a little Dutch courage for whatever lies ahead, she says she knows what Klaus really wants is someone to hear his side of the story and he joins her for a drink. Meanwhile Davina calls Kol and asks him to bring her some supplies for a spell, seems like the young Mikaelson’s charm has worked after all.

Back at Camp Vamp Elijah is training Gia, she wishes she was outside with the others and a nicer teacher but Elijah says she is his responsibility. He also knows exactly what to say to her to make her understand, comparing the rhythm of fighting to playing music.

LALD 11

Now if you’re a regular reader of my recaps or you know anything about me at all you know I’m a Klaus girl to the core but the scene that follows, as Elijah and Gia spar, is quite possibly the hottest thing on The Originals so far, and that is all down to the amazing Daniel Gillies and the gorgeous Nishi Munshi.

LALD 12

Hayley interrupts Gia with her hand in Elijah’s chest, she’s brought Aiden over for a chat.

LALD 13

Aiden explains Finn’s plan for the young werewolves and asks for help, they want to get the children out to the bayou where there are wolves who are still free from Esther’s control. Marcel is sceptical until Aiden reveals that one of the children is his little brother. Oooh, it’s family drama all over the Big Easy and Elijah wants to help…maybe he’s not all Team Vamp after all.

Klaus seems a little drunk and is railing at Cami about his parents and his choices. He’s going to kill Mikael first, and has brought Papa Tunde’s mystical knife of ludicrous torment (as Cami calls it) to give him an edge. He’s fired up and ready to go after Mikael but Cami stops him, tries to show him that there is more to life than the pain his parents have inflicted on him if he will just let it go (I’m not singing I swear…even though “Conceal, Don’t feel” is pretty much Klaus’ motto). They dance and it’s clear that Cami wants more but Klaus ditches her to go deal with Dear Old Dad (yes, I’m in denial about the almost kiss – sue me).

At the house Koleb and Davina flirt over her busted ankle and her de-linking spell which Koleb is asking questions about. He’s a nosy little git this one, but she’s still a little wary and won’t tell him. They are both blissfully unaware of the vengeful hybrid bearing down on them with murderous intent.

The Vamp/Wolf alliance are busy making plans to get the wolf kiddies safely out of the city, a plan that’s going to put Ollie right in the line of fire for Esther and Finn, since they don’t trust him anyway (smart move, back-stabbing wretch that he is) and all the werewolf children will be vanishing on his watch.

While Davina sleeps, Kol explores the cabin and finds the stake just as Mikael finds him. Kol manages to barter with Mikael, promising that he can break the spell on the bracelet that is keeping the Destroyer on a leash in exchange for his life being spared. Certainly seems that the youngest Mikaelson boy isn’t in this for anyone but himself.

Back in the city the wolves are on the move. Gia and Marcel attack, drawing away the other adults who have been put on guarding the children so that Ollie can lead the youngsters away. Josh and Hayley take the children and Oliver goes to the docks where he meets Elijah, the other adult werewolves are on his tail. Elijah gives them a chance to leave, honouring Hayley’s wishes to leave her people alone. Sadly they have been sent for Elijah by Esther, so they aren’t leaving. Elijah suggests Ollie leave before things get violent but he stands with Elijah as things get violent. Hmm, am I going to have to stop being annoyed at Ollie? Aiden brother and the others get out of town with Marcel and Aiden thanks Hayley for her help. Elijah and Oliver finish off the wolves just as Finn and Esther show up, knock Ollie out and skewer Elijah. Oh. CRAP!

LALD 10

Koleb wakes Davina up while trying to get to her bracelet, points out her phone is loaded with messages from Cami saying that Klaus knows where she is and is coming for her. Davina panics and gets Koleb to help her with a spell that cloaks their presence from Klaus.

LALD 9

Sadly he’s not buying it, especially not when he sees the staff outside with Mikael’s mark on it. The staff he promptly lobs through the window, knocking Davina out. Mikael forces Kol to release him and he goes out to face Klaus. The fight is a knock-down, drag-out and Klaus takes the White Oak Stake to the chest (thankfully missing his heart) before he stabs Dear Old Dad with Papa Tunde’s blade. Cami arrives, pissed that Klaus ditched her, and bitches him out for putting Davina in harm’s way. Klaus promises not to harm Davina and says he even took Cami’s advice and hasn’t killed Mikael, just used Papa Tunde’s blade on him to keep him in agony. Why do I feel like Klaus should just stake his abusive ass and watch him burn? That knife hasn’t been good for anyone who has used it up to this point…

Back in the city Josh is waiting in a bar for the guy he’s been messaging online. Turns out it’s Aiden and these two turn the cute up to 11.

LALD 7

Awww, a wolf and a vamp in love…well…maybe. Although I can’t see these two cute, crazy kids getting to be happy, not with the Quarter about to implode around them in a Supernatural War.

Hayley and Marcel celebrate their success and Hayley tells Gia not to worry about Elijah because he’s a big boy and can look after himself. Just as Mikky Ekko’s Smile starts to play.

Smile, the worst is yet to come…

Klaus loads Mikael’s prone body into the trunk of his truck, where the Destroyer proceeds to extract the dagger from HIS OWN CHEST CAVITY!

LALD 6

He wasn’t kidding about that whole mastering pain thing was he? I knew Klaus should have staked him.

Oh, and Esther has Elijah chained up in a tomb looking like he is on a cross (the eternal martyr of his family) and tells him that she can free him, but first he needs to be purified.

LALD 5

Judging by her tone I’m guessing she doesn’t just mean he needs a shower.

Next week sees Nina Dobrev’s appearance as Tatia, and from the trailer it seems like Esther is playing with Elijah’s mind, bringing up some memories he’d rather keep buried. Can’t wait to see what fresh hell the Mikaleson parents are going to unleash on their offspring.
