“The Tomorrow People” sounds a lot like the X-Men movies and comic books: Humans born with special abilities are hunted by a secret group of scientists. The series debuts at 8 p.m. Wednesday on The CW. At 7 p.m. on Thursday, ABC launches “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” a new spinoff of its successful fairy tale adventure show “Once Upon a Time.” This week’s returning shows include (check your cable listings for times):

•  Tuesday: “The Biggest Loser,” “Supernatural.”
•  Wednesday: “Arrow,” “American Horror Story: Coven”

MUSIC
Miley Cyrus releases the anticipated “Bangerz” this week, featuring singles “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.” The album is full of collaborations with artists such as Britney Spears, Nelly and Big Sean. Rock band Panic! at the Disco releases their fourth album “Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!” on Oct. 8. The band pays homage to their hometown Las Vegas with introspective songwriting while still maintaining their distinctive high-energy style. Also out this week:

BOOKS
In “Longbourn,” Jo Baker imagines a downstairs version of “Pride and Prejudice” centered on the Bennets’ orphaned housemaid Sarah. And Award-winning author William Boyd pens an addition to the 007 canon with “Solo: A James Bond Novel.” The book follows Bond as he travels to Africa on an unusual mission to stop a burgeoning civil war. Also available this week:

MOVIES
Tom Hanks stars as Richard Phillips, who faces the first hijacking of an American cargo ship in over 200 years in “Captain Phillips.” The film tells the true story of the 2009 hijacking of the MV Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates.
• Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth play the star-crossed lovers in Shakespeare’s famous “Romeo and Juliet.” Also stars Damian Lewis, Paul Giamatti and Ed Westwick.
• Danny Trejo battles to take down an arms dealer in Mexico as Machete Cortez in “Machete Kills.” The star-studded cast also includes Charlie Sheen, Jessica Alba and Sofía Vergara.
VIDEO
In the final installment of the popular franchise, “The Hangover Part III” follows the infamous Wolf Pack as they try to save their kidnapped friend Doug from a mob boss. Also available this week:
