Music Monday
This Music Monday I want to introduce you to a band who are pretty special to me – KONGOS!
I first discovered them during season 1 of The Originals, when their song Come With Me Now was played during an episode. You probably know the track even if you haven’t seen The Originals, given that Come With Me Now has been used in a bunch of movies and commercials as well
I loved the sound so I went looking and fell in love. The four piece band comprises brothers Danny (guitar, vocals), Dylan (bass guitar, lap slide guitar, vocals), Johnny (accordion, keyboards, vocals) and Jesse (drums, percussion, vocals) Kongos and their sound is…well it’s bloody hard to describe actually. There’s some badass accordion (yes really), some extremely sexy slide guitar and a lot of funky drums. Their father is South African musician John Kongos and there’s definitely hints of the township style of music you might be familiar with if you’ve ever heard Graceland by Paul Simon.
Come With Me Now is from their second album (and the first I heard) which was called Lunatic and featured the also fabulous Hey I Don’t Know and it’s exceptionally groovy GoPro filmed video
Just in case you think they are all upbeat funk, check out the almost ballad that is Escape. I’d totally run away with them 🙂
Egomaniac
The band released their latest album, Egomaniac, in the summer of 2016 and the lead single from it is the catchy as hell Take It From Me
I’m actually really struggling with narrowing down choices for this post because I’m yet to find a track on either of their most recent albums that I don’t love.
I’ll leave you at the end of this Music Monday with two tracks from Egomaniac – one which showcases that badass accordion playing I mentioned before and the other that will get you dancing unless you have no pulse.
KONGOS are on tour worldwide right now, visit http://www.kongos.com/shows to check out when they will be in your area and to buy tickets/VIP Packages!
