Manifest : Duty Free Round Table Review

The season finale is getting super close now and we are back with another round table review for Manifest Season 3 Episode 11 called “Duty Free”. Joining me (Rike) on this one are Mandy and Anna Maria. Are you guys ready? Let’s do this!

Manifest: Duty Free Synopsis

The consequences of Ben’s (Josh Dallas) actions tests his marriage and sends Grace (Athena Karkanis) reeling. Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) makes a difficult decision regarding Saanvi’s (Parveen Kaur) secret. Cal (Jack Messina), following his intuition, provides secret refuge to an outcast.

Your opinion about this episode in general?

R: Definitely not a bad episode at all. This one made me even more excited about the upcoming season finale. Gotta admit I’m a bit scared though. There were a lot of moments in this episode where I was kinda done with Ben and the way he keeps acting. Even after the wake up call he just got. Let’s not even begin with Angelina (Holly Taylor). No. But in general it was another good one to watch for sure.

M: It was intense but I also found myself annoyed sometimes because of some characters. I hated seeing Grace so sad and worried. Angelina gets on my nerves every time. Also the passengers truly being on their own now is making me nervous. I am super excited to see Adrian is back though! Eagen (Ali Lopez-Sohaili) and Adrian (Jared Grimes) will be a very interesting duo to see, I think.

AM: It was another intense one, building up to that two-part finale. Ben continuing on his mission to save the life-boat, while risking his marriage with Grace was a bit hard to watch. Not enough Jared in this episode tho!

Grace giving up the idea of her own restaurant with paying a lot of money to save Ben. Will she regret this later?

AM: I don’t think she will regret it. I know it was a big dream of hers, but saving Ben and her family is more important.

M: Hmm, I don’t know. I mean opening up a restaurant (to honor her brother) was a big dream of hers. It makes me so sad that she can’t do it anymore now. But to Grace her family is more important which is totally understandable. We’ll have to wait and see how this will turn out in the end.

R: Family is always the most important thing. I do get that and totally agree with it, but it still made me sad watching her giving up her one dream. At least for now. I’m sure they’ll find a way to fulfill her dream sooner or later. But I expected Ben to act a bit differently. He’s still pretty much obsessed with the topic after all and this is what’s making me scared. After every episode I’m even more convinced that he’s the one ruining everything.

Cal and Angelina teaming up. Thoughts?

M: This got me on my nerves. Like excuse me hello why is Angelina letting Cal ALONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT somewhere in the city. Is she ok? I swear Cal disappears every season somewhere around episode 11/12 alone in the middle of the night. This is starting to become a tradition of Cal disappearing. The Stones need to keep a better eye on this guy.

R: Cal is growing up and getting older, but choosing Angelina as a team partner? No, I don’t like this at all. Angelina is still giving me some weird and strange vibes which make me feel a bit uncomfortable. Definitely a bad influence and hopefully Cal will understand this before it’s too late.

AM: I did enjoy seeing Cal making his own decisions based on what he feels is right, but I am not a fan of Angelina and her theories about Eden being her guardian angel and her religious theories. So mixed feelings.

Passengers being executed. It’s getting even worse. What’s gonna happen next?

R: When I saw that I was pretty damn shocked. Didn’t expect this at all. I mean, it’s getting worse every single day but this is huge and I’ve got a feeling that this is just the beginning. Help.

AM: That’s scary as hell. When they have gone so far – it is impossible to say what will happen next. It definitely seems like it is building up to a war between passengers and the government.

M: This is so scary, like what the hell is happening. They truly are on their own now and can only save themselves.

Mick quitting her job which she’s been so passionate about the whole time. Good or bad decision?

AM: I didn’t see this coming at all. But considering the circumstances, it maybe was the right decision. The benefits of being a cop were quite limited with the new restrictions, so she’s probably more helpful not being watched by the supervisors.

M: I did see this coming. I feel like they slowly build it up in the last few episodes. It’s so sad that she has to give up her dream job because she feels like she can’t be both a cop and a passenger. In the end it may be a good decision, because as a passenger who has to follow callings but also follow the rules of a precinct these 2 things can’t go along. I am very curious to see what Michalea her storyline in the future will be like and how she’ll evolve herself now she isn’t a cop anymore.

R: From what we’ve seen so far, especially with the last few episodes, it wasn’t a big surprise after all. But it still overwhelmed me in some kind of way. I do understand why she did it and I hope that she will be fully happy again soon. Hopefully Zeke (Matt Long) and her family will support her now. At least she doesn’t need to play the rules as a cop anymore. That’s something, right?

Your final score:

M: I will give it a 7.

R: Not perfect but also not pretty bad so let’s stick with a 7.

AM: I’ll give it a 7,5.
