Jupiter’s Legacy By Dawn’s Early Light Review

With Jupiter’s Legacy about to land on Netflix in less than 24 hours, a select few were given access to the premiere – By Dawn’s Early Light. Among them were myself, Marti and Rike from the FANdemonium Network team so we decided to have a quick chat about our first impressions of the episode. Let’s go!

Jupiter’s Legacy Synopsis

The first generation of superheroes has kept the world safe for nearly a century. Now their children must live up to their legacy in an epic drama that spans decades and navigates the dynamics of family, power and loyalty.

So we’ve all now watched the premiere of Jupiter’s Legacy – what were your first impressions?

Clare – That was one fast paced premiere. There was a lot going on but it all made sense in the establishing of the world. It set up the basics pretty nicely for anyone who isn’t familiar with the comics. I absolutely loved the family dynamic. This first episode is written and directed by the phenomenal Steven DeKnight who is the man behind some of my all time favourite TV shows so I had high hopes and it did NOT disappoint.

Marti – I’ve only read the synopsis before starting watching the episode, so I wasn’t familiar with the story at all. I think they explained the basics as much as they could but still wasn’t enough for me.

Rike – There was definitely a lot going on in this first episode. Feel like they used the perfect amount of action and drama as a kick off. To be honest, I didn’t know anything about this whole new world and comic books, but I really did enjoy watching it. Only took me a couple minutes to get into it. Great cast and great story so far.

What was your favourite moment of the episode?

R – Probably all the scenes with Sheldon and Brandon just because I’m a huge fan of Josh Duhamel’s work in general and I fell for Andrew Horton right from the very beginning.

M – Probably the family dinner as I totally loved Chloe. The ending as well, with the plot twist I wasn’t really expecting.

C – Ummm, probably the very dysfunctional family dinner at the start, although I also liked the scene with Sheldon and Walter (Ben Daniels) at the Union of Justice HQ.

And your least favourite?

M – I didn’t really like the fight scene at the end, even though it probably was one of the crucial moments of the episode.

C – the fact there’s about 5 new characters I wanna cosplay?

R – Don’t really have one in mind right now to be honest. Maybe the ones including Chloe (Elena Kampouris) just because of her behaviour in general. But on the other hand I do like this whole “I don’t give a shit” acting, even though I feel sorry for Sheldon. Especially during the dinner scene.

Based on the premiere, will you be watching the rest of the season when it launches?

M – I’m still not sure if it’s my cup of tea. I really liked some moments, but at the same time it wasn’t able to completely catch my attention. Even though the preview of the next episodes with the Wall Street storyline really intrigued me.

R – Definitely! That’s one big yes from me. I really need to know what happens next, especially after seeing this little promo video in the end. There’s so much going on and I feel like I’m going to fall in love with some characters and probably also hate some others. Like Clare already said, there are a lot of questions in my mind right now. Hopefully we’ll get some answers rather sooner than later.

C – Absolutely. Especially after the little sizzle reel we saw at the end of the episode, I have so many questions now that I really need some answers for! And I definitely want to see more of Skyfox (Matt Lanter).

Were you familiar with the comic books by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely before? If not do you think you might read them now?

R – I didn’t know anything about these comic books in general and I have to admit that I’m not a big fan when it comes to reading comics. But maybe I’ll give it a try. Who knows? Maybe these comic books will change my mind. Let’s see about that.

C – They’ve been on my radar for a while but I’ve not read them yet. I will definitely be tracking them down.

M – I don’t read comics, so I wasn’t familiar with the books. I don’t think I will read them, just because I wouldn’t be able to give them the attention they deserve.

How would you rate the first episode out of 10?

C – I’m gonna say 8. There’s things that could have been better, but as far as series premieres go this was pretty fantastic!

M – 5 but just because not being familiar with anything, I felt lost.

R – I’ll give this one a 7.5. There’s still some room for improvement, but overall it was a good episode.

The whole season of Jupiter’s Legacy is available to stream now on Netflix.
