House Of The Dragon “King Of The Narrow Sea” Review

House Of The Dragon “King Of The Narrow Sea” is the fourth episode from the first season of the House Of The Dragon TV series. Another, smaller time skip for this episode from the end of episode 3. Rhaenyra has to put up with constant choices for her hand. From old men to young boys, she’s clearly doesn’t want to be there and is in some ways disgusted by some of the choices being given to her. And that’s what this episode is really about, Rhaenyra’s journey to accepting her fate as Princess and taking control of it instead of the choices for her life being made for her.

This episode explores clearly Rhaenyra becoming the woman she’s going to be and accepting that instead of fearing it, all the while more subtly Alicent becoming more and more jealous of Rhaenyra, something that may come back to bite her as she hasn’t taken it seriously. With the help of Daemon, who she’s smitten with, Rhaenyra discovers that having sex doesn’t have to be a life sentence as she had previously thought but word gets out and the assumption is made that she had sex with Daemon when it’s Ser Criston she sleeps with. Whilst swearing on her mother’s memory that nothing happened. The King does what he can to cover up the scandal, giving her an abortion tea.

Rhaenyra make a lot of choices in this episode that I feel are definitely going to come back and hurt her in the future, she lies to Alicent, who despite her jealousy still trusts her friend. She allows herself to make choices that could ruin Criston’s life if it ever got out. She’s not without her reasons but it’s clear this is a turning point for her. Rhaenyra has become the person she wants to be and is taking what she wants from life for the first time and it’s awesome.
