Hell’s Paradise “The Death Row Convict and the Executioner” Review
Hell’s Paradise “The Death Row Convict and the Executioner” is the first episode of the anime of the same name. This episode introduces our main characters over a series of days showing our protagonist’s, Gabimaru’s, multiple executions. And finally his acceptance to work with the Ronin Sagiri to get the elixir of life as a trade for his freedom, in order to return to his wife.
Review
What an amazing first episode! One episode and both Gabimaru and Sagiri have their hooks into me. I’m desperate to learn more about these characters and see them in action as much as possible. I loved how the first part of the episode was brutal, cruel and bloody with it’s executions, mirroring Gabimaru’s mindset and mentality at the time but as his control over his own will to live for his wife’s sake weakens the episode becomes much less bloody and cruel. People still die but in a flash of sudden fire, not screaming in pain. It really pulls you in to how Gabimaru is mentally reacting to what Sagiri is telling him and despite it being pretty obvious that he’ll accept the terms the moment seems to slow time down as he considers it. Absolutely extraordinary voice acting, brilliant opening theme, stellar directing and beautiful writing.
Cannot wait for next week!
