Giving vs. Receiving: A Young Girl’s Gift of Charity

Normally you only see me post on the entertainment news, the who’s who of the Hollywood industry.  Over this holiday season though, I was struck by the generosity of one girl and I wanted to get her story out there for everyone to see.

A few months ago, Nadia, a 9-year-old from a Cleveland suburb, was watching the Ellen DeGeneres show, who is one of her role models.  On this particular episode, she saw a little boy her age helping others by providing food and other essentials to those in need.  She decided at that point that she wanted to do something to help others as well.

So in November, she started a sock drive, to collect socks for children in need.  Her original goal was to reach 200 pairs of new socks that she could bring to the local women’s crisis center.  That goal was more than doubled.  Right before Christmas, Nadia was able to drop more than 800 pairs off.

Now, she has decided that she wants to keep this going.  People don’t only need clothing at Christmas time, but they are always in need.  With the help of her mom, she was able to set up her own Facebook page  and a Go Fund Me campaign, Nadia’s Soft Smiles.  Her main goal in doing all of this: to get people to notice that even though she may not have as much as others, there are always people out there with less.

I was in awe of this story from the beginning and my whole purpose is to spread the word about this wonderful little girl and what she is trying to do.

To learn more, please visit one of her sites and donate if you can.  It would mean the world of difference for many out there.
