The Exorcist Season 2X08: A Heaven of Hell

  • Spoilers!
  • A look into The Mouse(And Marcus’s) past
  • A bunch of Andy feels

Marcus(Ben Daniels) and Tomas(Alfonso Herrera) are having difficulty exorcising Andy(John Cho); the demon posing as his late wife Nikki(Alicia Witt) has made it more difficult.

Verity(Brianna Hildebrand), still unbelieving, offers to speak to Andy to try to help him. This does little to help, save for Andy having a brief moment of clarity.

Rose(Li Jun Li) admits that the family will most likely be broken up, much to the children’s heartbreak. She takes them away, and waits for the ferry.

The demon reveals to Tomas that Marcus had an apprentice before, a mouse…

Mouse and Marcus

Mouse(Zuleikha Robinson) is driving with the gravely wounded Father Bennett(Kurt Egyiawan), and finally convinces him to go to a hospital.

In a flashback, we see Mouse and Marcus together as she attempts to cut his long hair. She is a novice, and Marcus is trying to talk her out of taking the vows. She envies him his relationship with God, as he feels Him, whereas she must rely only on faith.

We see that a possessed nun is at the abbey, and Marcus has been working on her exorcism. Mouse wants badly to follow in his footsteps, and goes into the room to work on her exorcism skills. The demon possessed nun tricks the young novice, and attacks her, entering Mouse.

Marcus tries to exorcise Mouse, and is convinced to leave. Another priest finishes the exorcism, and Mouse wakes up weeks later, and Marcus is gone.

Mouse slips out of the hospital, knowing the police will come due to Father Bennett’s wound.

The Body in the Bathtub

During a break, Tomas is in the bathroom, washing up. He hears a groan/hiss, and is convinced it is from the wrapped up body in the tub. Before he can get much closer to investigate, Marcus interrupts. During an argument between the two away from Andy, he uses a piece of broken glass to cut his restraints.

At the Ferry

Rose is in line to buy tickets for the ferry. Verity slips away, and Rose finds her walking back to retrieve a book. The book will be her only tie to Andy and Nikki, and she had thrown it away at the neighbor’s house.

Andy Escapes

Verity goes into the neighbor’s house, and it is eerily quiet. She heads upstairs to retrieve the book, and Rose comes in after her. They discover the neighbors both murdered, and Andy reveals himself from the shadows.

Thoughts on The Exorcist Season 2 Episode 8

Holy cow. The show is not afraid to have the demon say the things that most teens feel anyway, much less a foster child.

The cast is phenomenal on this show. They have a very lived in vibe together, which is perfect.

Bennett is too pretty to die. DO YOU HEAR THAT, FOX?

This show has all kinds of scares. Not just jump scares or boogie man scares. These kids are scared they will be broken up, Rose is scared for Andy. Just tense as, uh, hell. But so great.

I love that Marcus and Tomas have moments of doubt, but the show keeps the core of the show about faith.

How is Andy going to get the family back if he is a murderer? Is he a murderer, or is he somehow the bundled body in the tub?

Am I the only one that is slightly annoyed that Fox chooses to put Lucifer commercial pop ups on this show, of all shows?
