Yep, seems like the fourth and final movie in the Divergent series, Divergent: Ascendant, has found a new director according to Hypable. However, to the dismay of some fans it’s NOT going to be Divergent helmer Neil Burger.
Robert Schwentke helmed Insurgent and Allegiant and was meant to be directing Ascendant too but in January he announced that he would be leaving the franchise. Schwentke’s departure was apparently due to him wanting to spend more time with family in California after making two movies in Atlanta.
New director Krieger helmed 2015’s The Age of Adeline, which starred Blake Lively and Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones) and rom-com Celeste & Jesse Forever which starred Andy Samberg, Rashida Jones and Elijah Wood.
This change of director has been possible as, unlike other franchises which have split the final book into two movies like the Hunger Games, Allegiant and Ascendant have not been filmed together.
What do you think about this new appointment? Are you worried about a lack of coherence in the important final stages of the franchise or do you have faith that the cast and crew will still give us the movie we are all so excited for? Let us know in the comments.
