Attack On Titan “Final Arc First Part” Review
Attack On Titan “Final Arc First Part” is the eighty eighth episode of the Attack On Titan anime. This being a special one hour long episode to get the fans into the final arc of the show before it continues it’s regular showings Autumn 2023.
This special episode set up the final part of the show in spectacular fashion. Showing everyone’s resolve no matter which side they take. Eren makes it abundantly clear to everyone that there will be no negotiation and he’s out to kill or be killed. The people of Marley see how the Paradis Islanders are fighting for them and it helps to balance out pretty much everything.
The show isn’t subtle about it’s themes in this episode, there are moments of characters outright giving speeches that spell it out for the viewer but in the whole it’s not a bad thing. For many shows that’d come off as cringe and unneeded but in the context of what’s going on here with everything Eren is doing and plans to do, it makes total sense and even adds to the personalisation of some characters.
Honestly never thought I’d say this but this manga series benefits greatly from having an anime adaptation. Hanji’s last stand was spectacular and the death of the young Marley kids Eren knows he’s got to kill was gruesome in a way the manga didn’t really convey. Hanji’s final stand here really got to me and was amazingly directed and edited, the ODM scenes were amazing, MAPPA have really upped their game in that regard, likely because there were so many complaints about it.
The whole episode felt like a mix of hopefulness, pride, pain, suffering, anger. It was amazing, I only wish we didn’t have to wait so long for more but I guess I understand why MAPPA released the episode the way they did. This episode did Attack On Titan proud.
