Arrowverse – Crisis on Infinite Earths Casting Roundup

As you may, or may not, be aware, the final episode of the upcoming final season of Arrow will be the beginning of this year’s Arrowverse crossover. Titled Crisis on Infinite Earths, it draws from the DC Comics storyline written by Marv Wolfman and George Perez which brings together recognizable heroes from across the multiverse. There are a lot of names currently being touted in relation to this crossover, so we thought we would pull together everything we’ve heard so far.

Monitor and Anti-Monitor

Crisis on Infinite Earths Monitor

In the previous crossover Elseworlds, LaMonica Garrett appeared as Monitor. In Crisis, Monitor basically assembles a team of heroes from across the multiverse to go battle the Anti-Monitor… bad guy who is trying to kill said heroes off while destroying the multiverse. Garrett’s character made a deal with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), and that was about it. Seems like whatever that deal involved is about to pay off heavily in this crossover.  Garrett will be playing both Monitor and Anti-Monitor in the crossover.

Infinite Earths

Since this calls for multiple versions of many of the Arrowverse characters, the DC shows at the CW have seemingly put in calls across time and space, and are bringing together many actors who have previously played DC characters.

So far confirmed we have two Supermen, Supergirl‘s Tyler Hoechlin and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh, who previously donned the Red and Blue in Superman Returns (2006). He will be playing a Kingdom Come inspired Superman, based on Alex Ross’s art.

Crisis on Infinite Earths Superman

Also rumoured to be rocking up as another Clark Kent is Smallville‘s, Tom Welling. Adding fuel to that fire are recent rumours that Michael Rosenbaum will be reprising his Smallville role as Lex Luthor.

UPDATE

We can now confirm, as per TVLine, that Tom Welling WILL be back as Clark Kent/Superman, almost ten years since Smallville ended!

UPDATE 2

Another Smallville alum who has been confirmed is Erica Durance. She’s recently appeared playing Kara’s Kryptonian mother in Supergirl, but she will be reprising her role as Smallville’s Lois Lane for the crossover.

Brandon Routh is not the only regular Arrowverse face who has previously played a DC role. Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman in the 1970’s TV series, and recently appeared as President Marsdin in Supergirl, she is rumoured to be coming back for the Crisis crossover.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Black Bat?

Rumours aside, one other confirmed bit of casting is quite an exciting one. Kevin Conroy who voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman on the 90s Batman: The Animated Series will finally play a live-action Batman. Yes, you read that right, Batman is coming to the CW.

Another Wayne Manor resident who will be popping up is Burt Ward, who played Robin in the 60’s series.

UPDATE: After posting this last night, I’ve woken up this morning to see talk of Mark Hamill joining this epic crossover event. Hamill voiced the Joker to Kevin Conroy’s Batman in the Animated Series.

Black Lightning

So far, of all the DCTV shows, Cress Williams’ Black Lightning has remained outside of the Arrowverse fold. That’s all set to change now though. It’s been confirmed that he will be appearing in COIE, along with a couple of other faces from that show.

Who do YOU want to see?

Do you have a favourite actor who has previously played a DC role that you’ve love to see reprise it in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover? Let us know below. Personally I’m holding out for Smallville’s Green Arrow to show up. Wonder if Justin Hartley is available to don the green leather again.

UPDATE 3

News broke last night (Sept 26th) that Osric Chau (Supernatural, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency) will be appearing in the crossover.

Osric Crisis on Infinite Earths

He will play Ryan Choi, a physics professor. Keen-eyed comic fans might recognize the name as the person who takes over as The Atom from Ray Palmer. Given that Routh is ONLY credited for the crossover as the Kingdom Come Superman, and that he has announced his departure from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, could this be a sign that Osric will become a permanent part of the Arrowverse? Here’s hoping!

UPDATE 4

This Arrowverse is pulling out the stops with who they are adding to the line-up. Just this morning post appeared online that the devil himself has been added. That’s right super fans Tom Ellis aka Lucifer Morningstar will be in the Arrowverse. I am not sure how they are going to pull this off but I really hope there is a scene with Lucifer and Constantine Matt Ryan.

UPDATE 5

We already have Batwoman (Ruby Rose) but do we now have Batman. A picture posted from the set of Crisis on Infinite Earth’s show Bruce Wayne played by Michael Keaton. I am in shock and awe over this!! I can’t wait for these crossover episodes. Now if only they would add two more Superman-like Dean Cain and Henry Cavill. Then all my favorite supes in one show. A fangirl can dream, right?
