Aquaman Cameo in Batman V Superman Trailer?

Aquaman

Is this Batman V Superman’s First Aquaman Easter Egg?

Don’t blink or you’ll miss it, we aren’t joking that it’s literally one second of the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer. If you go step by step in Quicktime, it makes for just 24 frames, and that includes the fade in and out from the preceding and following shots. But it’s one of the most intriguing seconds in the entire 219 of the newest trailer, because it’s underwater, and fans of a certain character are looking for any indication of how he’ll appear in the film.

Yes, we’re talking about Aquaman, and this might be our first clue to how he’ll come into the eventual Justice League picture.

The trailer made it’s debut at Comic-Con 2015 and was leaked online and forced the hand of the powers that be to post the trailer in full online for us to gawk at and hope for time to move faster. We get to see the titular characters. Wonder Woman gets her moments in the spotlight, as well, in two distinct “civilian identity” scenes and if not two fight scenes, then two separate sections of an extended action sequence (due to the lack of weaponry in one of the shots). But what of the other confirmed Justice League member appearing in the film, Aquaman?

One second of the trailer, a mere 24 frames (found at 2:27), is in Aquaman’s domain: underwater. The second-long clip sees what appears to be a boy diving along a chain (probably an anchor chain), underneath a small boat, and reaching toward something underneath the surface. At first glance, and in action, it looks like just some kind of lump, maybe a rock of some sort. But when you slow it down, or freeze-frame on the moment in question, it looks like something else; it looks like there’s a hood/bag pulled over a head on top of a very muscular back and arm.

Every shot in this trailer was very carefully chosen. They showed at least three distinct scenes featuring Wonder Woman to show her importance to the film. They showed her recovering from a blow with ease and looking like she was about to kick some ass because they wanted to demonstrate what their Wonder Woman would be like. There was the scene of Bruce Wayne in Metropolis that mirrors the Man of Steel scene, complete with complimentary heat vision special effects, which shows a perfect continuity between the two movies. Superman kneeling before Lex Luthor, Luthor with a large rock of Kryptonite, Superman with an army, Batman kicking said army’s collective arses; everything here means something to the larger picture.

So what about that diving boy? Well, one possibility, and a strong one at that, is that he’s discovering Aquaman in some kind of forced exile. Hooded and discarded, perhaps because he failed to protect the oceans from the gravitational device the Kryptonians deployed to terraform Earth? Whatever the reason, it’s at least possible that we are actually seeing Aquaman right there, for one second, 24 frames.

Or it could be a dead human, a statement from the Atlanteans in protest of what happened to their oceans. The surface world, now, is in trouble.

Or maybe it’s a Kryptonian, ejected from the blast at the end of Man of Steel instead of being sucked into the Phantom Zone, who has been defeated by Aquaman and his cohorts.

Of course, it might just be a rock, or container of some sort. maybe this is what the giant rock of Kryptonite that Luthor comes into possession of is found witin?

Whatever it is, that one second of film is definitely important. We know Aquaman’s presence isn’t much more than a cameo, but anything happening in the oceans is likely to get Arthur’s fans hearts pumping.
