And It Snowed – Coming To Kickstarter Sept 1st

Writer Nick Bryan is completing his Monochrome Trilogy of black and white standalone comics with And It Snowed, a32-page urban fantasy/crime one-shot funding on Kickstarter all through September 2020.

And It Snowed

Synopsis

Sam and her brother Luke are out too late in London, caught between a rock and a cold place. On one side, a loan shark demanding they repay their debt by stealing a magical artefact. On the other, the icy fury of its original owner -Jack Frost himself.

Scrambling away into the night, they find themselves prey in a desperate chase, caught in a hellish supernatural snowstorm.

The latest chilly outing is drawn in stark inks by Robert Ahmad (Headless, Cut-Man) and lettered by DC Hopkins (Star Trek, Ghosted in LA). The book is complete, and this Kickstarter campaign aims to raise funds for print and distribution.

Writer Nick Bryan said: “I had two main goals with And It Snowed – first, to capture my own experiences trudging across London on a snowy night – the endless, sometimes unsettling loneliness of it. Secondly, to play to Robert’s amazing ability to draw haunting noir-ish storybook cityscapes. I’m thrilled with the outcome on both counts, and I think it’s a fitting, fast-paced, emotional end to this phase of my comics self-publishing”.

The Monochrome Trilogy

As well as launching And It Snowed, the campaign serves as a celebration of the completion of the Monochrome Trilogy. The series began at Halloween 2018 with The Little Deaths of Watson Tower, a magical realist story about kids turning into grim reapers illustrated by Rosie Alexander (SAFFRON). The debut comic by both Bryan and Alexander, Little Deaths was described as “sweet and dark and beautiful and powerful” by Matt Ligeti the Comic Book Yeti  and ranked #48 in Pipedream Comics’ best comics of 2018.

The next entry was Moonframe, a high-concept scifi survival horror set on a future moon which is also a giant hard drive, drawn by Lucas Peverill (Futurequake, Sliced Quarterly) and lettered again by DC Hopkins. Released in February 2018, Alasdair Stuart called the book “great, smart fun… it explores its idea from multiple angles, tells you no lies and is ridiculously well put together.”

Kickstarter

As well as physical and digital copies of the new comic, the Kickstarter campaign includes sets of the full Trilogy. Also available are commissions from all three trilogy artists, prints of the covers, copies of Bryan and Ahmad’s previous collaboration The Catalyst, and original art from And It Snowed. The campaign launches on September 1st with a funding target of £1000.

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
