9-1-1 – Cursed Review

9-1-1 – Cursed aired Monday, November 7th; it’s the 7th episode of the 6th season. Is it a curse, just some old fashion coincidence, or some hidden motive? This episode has it all.

My Favorite and/or Least Favorite Part

The first rescue of the episode, a fading actress, Felisa Valdez (Natalee Linez), bought a historic bracelet from Pompeii that is supposed to bring her luck, but the moment she put the bracelet on a chandelier fell on top of her. The 118 arrived at the scene, she was trapped under while she was covered in multiple mini cuts. Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) worked on the victim while Buck (Oliver Stark) was busy cutting the chandelier as it was stuck into the floor. This is the first of many rescues she has.

After a second rescue, the team discovers that the cursed bracelet was left behind in the back of the ambulance. The moment Eddie touched it another crew member slipped and Bobby (Peter Krause) discovered gasoline on the floor. The station immediately had to be evacuated.

Disaster struck again as Felisa was looking for a crystal to bring her good luck when her assistant screamed from the backroom and a crystal was stabbed into her. As the shop owner was calling into dispatch, Felisa and the shop owner collapsed. The team had no idea what could cause them to pass out, they were able to find out from the shop owner that it was marcasite, and when it’s combined with stomach acid it creates hydrogen sulfide.

Honorable Mentions

The moment Eddie met the cursed actress, he started thinking that it wasn’t her who was cursed. He believes it has something to do with her assistant. Eddie and Athena (Angela Bassett) are working together to figure out what the assistant’s motive or angle is. Athena discovers that there was a man on the scene for at least two of the accidents and that the bracelet that Felissa bought, she was told it was $20,000 when the assistant only bought it for $11,000. After a dangerous call, Athena was able to get the man who was following Felisa. The man admits that it was a forgery of the bracelet, the man panicked and wanted the bracelet back. All the accidents were a series of unfortunate events.

Standout Moment

Another disaster struck Felisa; after Athena and Eddie warned about a possible danger, Felisa was driving when she noticed someone was following. As Felisa was trying to get away with the help of dispatch, she drove into a truck that buried her in asphalt. Athena reassures her that help is coming before the scene pulls up. Their main concern is the fumes from the asphalt. As they try everything to reach her, the team manages to crack through the asphalt and pull her out.

My Overall Thoughts on the Episode

I love out of everyone on the team that it is Chimney and Hen (Aisha Hinds) who believe in curses, but Bobby wants to call it just coincidences. Though I am a huge fan of the firefighters this season, they are becoming mini detectives for brief episodes. First, we had Buck and now we have Eddie. The struggle of Buck trying to donate sperm gave another incite of curses, as Buck was experiencing his own curse of not being to donate for weeks.

I am a little angry with the writers. In the last scene of the episode, when Eddie talks to Felisa about his son almost dying in a tsunami, the writers forget Buck was also with Christopher. Where we almost lost both of them. Although he is currently discussing his son, it could still have been added. Overall, it was an okay episode, but not my favorite of the season so far. I did like how it was the same actress and curse every time.

You can watch all previous episodes and seasons on Hulu.
