Honorable Mentions

In Florida, Bobby and Athena are assisting Athena’s parents after her father suffered a stroke behind the wheel and crashed straight into their home.   They are also dealing with Athena’s mother who is set in her ways and is upset with how Athena lives in LA. Tension is high between mother and daughter which Bobby had to get in the middle of as both women needed to cool off. At the end of the episode, the mother and daughter eventually talk things out. But as Athena arrives home, she is greeted by the police at her parent’s house, Bobby informs her that a body was found under the house.

My Favorite and Least Favorite Part

The Happiness Symposium; when the structure of the convention building collapsed was my least and favorite part of the episode. The 118 is called onto the scene. While Eddie (Ryan Guzman) works with two other firefighters to get two friends out from under a large chunk of concrete; Buck (Oliver Stark) is getting sound advice from the victim that he and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) are working on. All hands are busy and the team is stretched to the limit as a third victim is discovered under the chunks of concrete. They managed to save the kid but Chimney’s and Buck’s victim did not make it.

9-1-1 -- season 6 episode 2 -- Crash & Learn -- Aisha Hinds Kenneith Cho

This was my favorite segment as we got to see the tension of the group of friends before the structure collapsed. As well as the team working in a time-sensitive situation, and seeing two other members of the 118, including firefighter Julie Rosen (Gilli Messer). It was also my least favorite as we see the toll of losing the victim takes on Hen, making her feel like she has failed. If we have learned anything over the last six seasons it is that Hen does not like losing her patients/victims.

“Do I look like I’m at ease, Buck?” – Henrietta ‘Hen’ Wilson (Aisha Hinds)

Standout Moment

This week’s standout moment is Hen. We see how Hen is trying to balance her duties as interim captain, studying for her medical finales, and her family duties. Her medical finales are the most important finales if she wants to become a doctor. She quickly learns how much paperwork it is when you are an interim captain of a firehouse. Trying to balance everything eventually takes a toll on her and leads to her falling asleep at the wheel and forgetting her son’s robotics club. She is mentally and physically stretched thin with all of the stress, which resulted in her failing her neurology exam.

My Overall Thoughts On The Episode

In my opinion, Hen was amazing in this episode, and it breaks my heart that she now has to decide between being a doctor or a paramedic. We finally got to see her in a leadership role and taking charge of all the guys of the 118. Plus, we got a glimpse of how the guys of the 118 play pranks, which I would definitely love to see more of. I think we all would love to see more funny/relaxed pranks that take place in the station. I am going to get some hate for this, but I’m not sure how I feel about this new development with Buck. Every season he tends to change and grow as a character, this new development with his character with his overthinking.

Be sure to return for next week’s preview.

You can watch all previous seasons on Hulu.
