What You Need To Know About Stan Against Evil Episodes 5 & 6

First off, I want to say that I hope this show gets renewed ASAP. The characters are oddly relatable for a horror comedy, and smarter than most characters on this type of show.

Stan Against Evil – Episode 5 – Ouija Bored

We finally see how Stan’s (John C. McGinley) beloved wife and protector died. A heart attack would be normal on any other show, except on Stan Against Evil, Claire (Susan Williams) has one after digging up a plant that would give Audrey II nightmares (it bleeds!), then using the trowel to enucleate a demon. Clare drops dead before she can vanquish it entirely, and we flash forward to present day.

The flowers again are in bloom, and we learn they smell worse than a corpse plant.

The entire town wakes up exhausted, and Constable Evie (Janet Varney) quickly decides a seance to contact Clare is in order, after reading up on the cryptic entry about those godawful plants.

We learn that Claire was not a fan of breakfast for dinner. If you listen carefully, there is a Hugh Jackman joke slyly placed in the conversation. Luckily, Denise’s advice to contact the spirits of all of the Wizard of Oz Munchkins goes unheeded.

The girl has a running obsession with that movie.

Pay close attention to the “candles” used in the seance. A brilliant and funny sight gag that actually fits the quirky nature of this show.

Things do not go as planned, and Stan ends up in another reality with the demon posing as his wife. Stan is happy; he gets to watch his WWII show and drink beers.

Evie must contact him, and sadly, Hitler is the only way; he is featured on the WWII show, and
Evie must give Stan the info he needs through the TV. Stan is not impressed.

But then his wife fries eggs for dinner.

Stan nearly frees himself, but gets a frying pan punch that would make Samwise Gamgee proud.

He wakes up(possibly this is not the first time) on the table, the demon ready to sacrifice him.

Some cleverness by Evie in the real world saves him at the last possible second, and they live to see another day.

After they get some much needed sleep.

Also, there’s a demonic Pomeranian.

Stan Against Evil – Episode 6 – I’m Gleaning My Coven

Starts with a disgusting birth that only this type of show can deliver (if you’ll pardon the pun).
Stan tries to avoid scandal by sugaring his coffee in private, because manly men should drink it only when it tastes like “battery acid.” Evie catches him sweetening his coffee as she writes him a speeding ticket (he later pays for it in pennies). That is forgotten when Stan sees goth kids in town. Evie reminds him that they come because of the town’s history.

The trio of goths, Charlene, Craig, and Keanu, seem nice enough, renting the room where the witch Minerva Garret died.

They later encounter Denise, assuming she is a virgin and thinking her blood may come in handy. She willingly goes with them, much to their surprise.

Back in the room, they perform a ritual that will make you laugh at the accoutrements and the realism of what happens when you cut yourself, then jump when magic really happens.

Craig is possessed, and goes on a rampage after seemingly killing Denise.

Charlene and Keanu go to the police station to report what happened (their coven started as roller coaster thrill seekers), and Evie calls Stan.

But Denise is home, behaving even more strangely, and unsuccessfully wielding an axe.

Stan has bound her with something evil can’t touch (duct tape, but anyone that has used duct tape knows that), and she seems to be drooling blue goo. Possibly the blueberries from a few eps ago? She is possessed, and Evie gets the truth from her. Stan, not so much. His route of using a sack of oranges is vetoed, and a solution is available, but only if Charlene can get Stan to dance.
He does, just enough, and Charlene’s ritual helps put things to rights.

And she finally admits Craig wasn’t her boyfriend.

This show’s season finale is next week; I hope you can live tweet along with me next week on Twitter (@FANdemoniumNet)!

Stan Against Evil airs Wednesday at 10 and 10:30 PM on IFC.
