This week for Soundtrack Sunday I looked through my collection of soundtracks and not Films to see what came up as a possible selection and the One that stood out was Moulin Rouge. This film came out in 2001 starred Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor as a poet and the woman he falls in love with. Written and Directed by Baz Luhrmann who has his trademark style makes this a musical that is unlike most others.
The songs in this are pretty good as they instead of making the songs purely for the musical they use some songs from popular music and jazzing them up and using them for the situations in the film itself. What blew me is Ewan’s Voice in this and as he is an amazing actor and at the point I watched this I had not heard him sing at all and I was really shocked and drawn in. If you haven’t seen this film I do recommend you do. The poet named Christian played by Ewan McGregor moves to Paris to follow the Bohemian Revolution and falls for a Courtesan named Satine played by Nicole Kidman who at first believes he is a Patron and is rich. When she finds out he isn’t they still continue an affair as they have truly fallen for each other, making things a little Dangerous with the true Patron of the Club the Duke.
So listen to my favourite songs that if I play in the car I cannot help but sing along to, I hope you love how they have taken popular songs and put a spin on them to make you love how the film plays out.
Nature Boy by David Bowie
El Tango De Roxanne by Ewan McGregor, Jose Feliciano and Jacek Koman
Sparkling Diamonds by Nicole Kidman, Jim Broadbent, Caroline O’Connor, Natalie Mendoza and Lara Mulcahy.
Lady Marmalade by Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink.
Thank you for listening, any films you want to recommend the soundtrack for and if I haven’t seen or listened I will and maybe it will make it in a future Soundtrack Sunday.
