Masterpiece – Victoria stars Jenna Coleman in the lead alongside Rufus Sewell and Tom Hughes
Let’s face it we all have been lost since Downton Abbey ended its reign on PBS November 8, 2015. Netflix has given us royalty in the form on The Crown, starring Claire Foy (Wolf Hall) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Pride Prejudice and Zombies), and now we are going to where it all began in the Monarchy with Masterpiece – Victoria.
Watch the highly anticipated premiere on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 9/8c. In 1837, a neglected teenager is crowned Queen Victoria, navigates the scandal, corruption, and political intrigues of the Court, and soon rises to become the most powerful woman in the world. Victoria stars Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Queen Victoria in the highly anticipated series that follows the drama of the candid, spirited monarch who was perhaps the first woman to seem to have it all.
The show follows Victoria from the time she became Queen through her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert, the premiere season of Victoria dramatizes the romance and reign of the girl behind the famous monarch. Queen Elizabeth II (the current ruler of the United Kingdom) is a great great granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
In addition to Coleman, the cast includes Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle) as Lord Melbourne, her first prime minister and intimate friend and Tom Hughes (Page Eight, Dancing on the Edge) as her husband Prince Albert.
