Clare’s Comics Catalogue – Corsair
Hey gang, welcome back to the Comics Catalogue. I know, I know, it’s been a while. But I’m back, so dust off the bookshelves cos this one DESERVES your attention. Corsair is the latest offering from those mad geniuses over at Madius Comics. Specifically Nick Gonzo, with art by Stefani, aka MagiciansHouse.
Corsair is, well, he’s a little bit old world magic and a little bit new tech. He’s got kind of a Constantine vibe, but with a touch of “my boss is an asshole” that I think many can relate to. Think detective story but the case just happens to involve magic and monsters. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.
From the official press release, because for some reason they actually send me these things…
Agent Corsair is part of The Order, an ancient fellowship that’s been maintaining the relationship between the two sides of England; The modern world, and the ancient things that live in the shadows.
Assigned by his superiors to a low level missing persons case, Corsair is set to track down a local businessman who has been trying his hand at black magic. As he works the case more questions surface, and Corsair is forced to question his place in an increasingly modern world, because as well as having to live through ghosts and flesh eating horrors he has to survive the modernisation and monetisation of his ancient organisation. Expect noir style mystery, hideous monsters, ancient evil, and a different twist on a haunted house.
I was pretty much on board before I ever saw a panel of the comic. Drawing inspiration from the folklore of the British Isles (which is bountiful) as well as stories of Neolithic stones, wind swept moors, haunted ruins and cursed bridges that writer Nick heard growing up in Yorkshire.
Stefani creates a wonderful visual style for the on-going adventures of Blythe Corsair and the spooky world of the Order. I mean, look at how creepily awesome this is.
The brilliant Alexa Renee (Paperbacks and Inkstains) is on colour duty and from what I have seen she’s doing a killer job as always.
The final member of the team bringing Corsair to life will be no surprise to anyone who knows Madius. Yeah, that’s right, the award winning Robin Jones is on lettering duty!
The Kickstarter
Corsair is on Kickstarter right now, and is fully funded with 10 days to go! I plumped for the Incanter tier, because I’ve been after a linocut print from Nick for a while now. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to get a cracking comic AND something super badass to hang on the wall. Something like these

So the lovely Nick better get thinking about some stretch goals. There’s still plenty of time before the kickstarter ends and lots of great rewards up for grabs.
