USA Orders “Timely and Relevant” Hacker Drama Mr. Robot to Series

USA Network has just ordered a hacker drama to series, E! Online has confirmed.

On the heels of the FBI announcing that the cyber attack on Sony was indeed orchestrated by North Korea, the network announced its first series pick-up for the 2015-2016 TV season with a 10-episode order for Mr. Robot (though that title is subject to change).

The “intense” hacker drama is set in New York City and will star Christian Slater(from 80s fame Heathers, Pump up the Volume and countless others) and 24‘s Rami Malek who is also in Night at the Museum and The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Mr. Robot could not be more timely and relevant,” USA Network President Chris McCumber said in a statement. “The creative team behind this series has done a brilliant job, taking viewers on a wild ride that leaves them wanting more. Rami gives a masterful performance as a hacker and unlikely hero, alongside Christian, who is perfectly cast as Mr. Robot.”

The “contemporary and culturally resonant drama” stars Malek as a young programmer, Elliot, who suffers from a debilitating anti-social disorder and decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them. He wields his skills as a weapon to protect the people that he cares about, but he will find himself in the intersection between a cybersecurity firm he works for and the underworld organizations that are recruiting him to bring down corporate America. Slater stars as the titular Mr. Robot, a mysterious anarchist who recruits Elliot into an underground hacker group.
