To Your Eternity “Aspiring To Go Higher” Review

To Your Eternity “Aspiring To Go Higher” is the thirteenth episode of the To Your Eternity anime. Following his isolation from everyone at the end of episode 12. Fushi is consistently approached by The Creator. After re-uniting with Pioran and understanding that The Creator is right. He and Pioran go on a boat to an island with lots of animals. Things aren’t happy sailing, though, as they’re both captured and sent to Jananda Island. An island full of prisoners.

Plot

Beginning the episode Fushi is deeply depressed about losing Gugu. He wanders around asking himself what he is and why he exists. When The Creator shows up. He essentially tells Fushi that he is a vessel for colelcting information about the land and nothing more. His existence is paramount to defeating the Nokkers though as he is the only one who can defeat them. He doesn’t know it yet but he will end up seeing just what The Creator means by this later. The Creator shows off his ability to force Fushi to change and he, as a wolf, smells Pioran. He chases after her and they’re reunited.

With so much on the line Fushi refuses to accept Pioran’s help at first but quickly comes around when he realises just how much he’s missed her. In a desperate attempt to make himself stronger he goes and finds more stimulation. From a rock to a crab. He and Pioran decide on a boat to get to an island of animals that no one goes to that’ll give him free reign to practice. They go to get on a boat but are ushered away by a girl onto another boat, the excuse being that the first one was full.

Being separated they find themselves on a ship that takes prisoners and sends them to an island called Jananda Island. Whilst off looking for Pioran, Fushi comes across the girl who put them on the boat and some of her friends. He demands a way to find Pioran and she promises to show him a realistic way to get his wish.

Review

This was such a great return to the series after the week long break! Fushi demanding to know what he is and his purpose was heart-breaking. And Pioran unknowingly providing him the answer to his question. Her relationship with him is fantastic. It’s almost like she can read his mind and it’s come a long way. Whilst he used to be nothing more than an exciting commodity to her, he’s now more like a family member to be cared for. This change in relationship is clear when Fushi goes to kill an animal just to become it so he can get to her. Knowing he can feel everything the animal feels and it’s massively painful for him, he’ll clearly stop at nothing to protect Pioran.

Whilst The Creator did warn him to leave the family behind it’s clear that on an emotional level being with them has helped him grow. Though if that’ll help him against the Nokkers remains to be seen. Fantastic episode and I can’t wait to see more of Jananda Island!
