Star Wars Han Solo Movie Gets Title!
Solo: A Star Wars Story. Ron Howard, director of the upcoming film, took to Instragram to announce the wrap up of principal filming and the new title.
The movie, set to release May 25, follows the story of a younger Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich. Starring alongside Ehrenreich is Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. The stand alone installment of the Star Wars franchise follows Solo and Chewbacca through their adventures in the universe, including the meeting of friend/enemy Lando Calrissian, portrayed by Donald Glover.
Other notable cast include: Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Production
Production of the film hasn’t been easy for Lucasfilm. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, original directors of the film, left the project in June 2017. Rumor has it that “creative differences” was the reasoning behind their departure . Ron Howard took over directing duties. Since then Howard has been keen on letting fans of the franchise know the films progress.
“I’m beyond grateful to add my voice to the Star Wars Universe… I hope to honor the great work already done & help deliver on the promise of a Han Solo film.” – Ron Howard on being hired to direct
Characters
If fans of the films are wondering whether the characters will crossover into the actual saga films, it looks like George Lucas has but the kibosh on that.
“George [Lucas] was so clear as to how that works. The canon that he created was the Star Wars saga. Right now, Episode VII falls within that canon. The spin-off movies, or we may come up with some other way to call those films, they exist within that vast universe that he created. There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the standalone films) in and out of the saga episodes. Consequently, from the creative standpoint, it’s a roadmap that George made pretty clear.” – Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President and Star Wars Brand Manager
