In a landmark move that comic fans have been waiting/wishing for (for over a decade) today it has been announced that Sony Pictures is bringing Spiderman into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The basics are as follows;
Spiderman will first appear in an as yet unnamed Marvel movie in the MCU.
Sony will then release the 3rd installment of their Spidey franchise on July 28, 2017 but it will be overseen by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and his team. To quote the official Marvel press release “Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.”
So, what does this mean for the rest of the MCU? Well some movies are going to get put back, namely; Thor: Ragnarok which will now debut on Nov 3rd, 2017, Black Panther will make its way to theaters on July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel on November 2, 2018 and finally the Inhumans will be pushed back from November 2018 to July 12, 2019. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1&2 will still go ahead as planned.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go dance the dance of Joy while I let this news sink in!
