By request from a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I am going to do a special post for today, Veterans Day. Knowing I’m doing the Hotties by Alphabet game, and knowing I’m on the letter C, this featured Veteran falls right into place.
Corporal Kyle Carpenter, is a retired United States Marine who received the United States’ highest military honor, the Medal of Honor for his actions in Marjah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2010. Carpenter was the youngest living recipient to receive this honor.
Kyle joined the Marines in 2009 at the age of 19. After completing his initial training at the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Private First Class Carpenter was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, Regimental Combat Team One, 1st Marine Division (Forward), 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on 21 November 2010, where he served as a Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) gunner from September 2009 to November 2010. In November 2010, while fighting in Marjah, Helmand Province Afghanistan, Carpenter threw himself in front of a grenade to protect a fellow Marine. His bravery led to him being severely injured. Multiple shrapnel wounds covered his face and right arm, ultimately leading to the loss of his right eye.
His story is why I’m featuring him in a special edition. His bravery and selflessness are astounding.
So after reading this, please thank those who have served, not for just their service, but also for the freedoms that they have allowed us to have.
