Soundtrack Sunday – Kingsman (2017)

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

Kingsman entered the stage in 2014 in style and quickly shot its way through the bad guys into our hearts. The sequel is out this week and everyone is ready. With the third movie tentatively confirmed, and a spin-off – Statesman – American Kingsman that takes the lead in The Golden Circle, there is no doubt this universe’s fans can sleep soundly… and they needn’t worry about this part either.

The Golden Circle is a good movie. But how does it sound?

Kingsman: The Golden Circle Soundtrack

Months ago, when I first heard Elton John of all people was cast in Kingsman, I was sceptic. Kingsman doesn’t do anything conventionally, and it literally rocks its way through the action… But Elton John? I wasn’t sure.

Oh, how wrong I was.

Kingsman is the kind of movie where you expect the soundtrack to be quick rhythms fitting of fight scenes and classic rock. And The Golden Circle is all that and so much more. It’s above all, filled with classics. From Elton John, through Frank Sinatra, to Prince… Truly a golden collection.

Just to illustrate, and let you listen and decide for yourself… Here’s Elton, bless him.

All my scepticism was gone with “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)”, in its ironically Wednesday version, leaving only pure joy and adoration, because Elton John really is one of the tiny gems that make this movie as shiny as its title. It’s delightful to listen to and watch.

As expected, every scene is edited perfectly to go with the music in a violently beautiful symphony – it comes as no surprise after The Secret Service – Kingsman is very aesthetically pleasing movie, and its sequel lives up to that.

And then, then there is always that one gem every movie has, that one song that will stick around in your head, and it’s surprisingly not Elton John, not Frank Sinatra, not the amazing “Word Up” finale. It’s that one surprise you don’t expect, you wouldn’t think would even fit into the movie, but in the end it steals all the attention.

Mark Strong completely amazes in The Golden Circle but I really didn’t expect him to sing, and oh, what a song it was… Truly a scene you should look forward too.

The only thing I am missing in The Golden Circle that The Secret Service had, music wise (because overall while very good for a sequel it could never compare to the first part) is a real music video with the main theme, like “Get Ready For It” from Take That, in absolutely stunning clip back in 2014. It was something I would really love to see, with so many really amazing pieces included in the movie.

To sum up, while it doesn’t really live up to The Secret Service, The Golden Circle is just as good musically. Kingsman will be Kingsman, and it’s a movie you can’t miss, on the big screen, in the cinema, where you can appreciate the beautiful picture and the blaring loud soundtrack that literally rocks it.
