Christmas is getting that little bit closer and this week we have one of my fave films that is about the true meaning of christmas.  Yes that’s right saving the day is the theme from this 80’s classic.  This week we will entertain you with Soundtrack Sunday: Die Hard (1988) and its music.

The Plot

John McClane (Bruce Willis – Red and Pulp Fiction) flies from New York to Los Angeles to see his wife for christmas.  All seems to be going well as he gets a Limo from the airport to Nakatomi Plaza.  Nakotomi Plaza is an enormous tower block that is hosting his wifes work christmas party.  John meets up with his wife Holly Gennaro McClane (Bonnie Bedelia – Presumed Innocent) and decides to freshen up after his long flight.

This fun and relaxed evenings event ends when German terrorists take over the building.  These terrorists are led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman – Harry Potter and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) who means business.  John overhearing the gunshots that start the mayhem manages to elude the terrorists.  Given the fact he has no outside help John being the New York cop that he is takes things into his own hands.

Radio friend

John eventually after some fistfights and elaborate methods of attracting attention gains some reluctant police help.  One poor cop working over christmas is ordered to check on some nutjob on the radio.  Johns attempts are nearly missed until a body drops onto the cops car as he leaves.  We learn that Sgt Al Powell (Reginald Veljohnson – Crocodile Dundee) can’t miss this problem and is lending support to John over the radio.

John doesn’t have the easiest of times running about Nakatomi plaza with no shoes and in a vest top.  When we get to the end he looks grubby and bloody but still like a hero he is.  Gunfighting and stunts happen as authorities fail to gain entry and the terrorists attempt to steal money.
