Cursed (2005)
This Soundtrack Sunday I am continuing with my horror theme one of Wes Craven’s delights. Again it is a film with an actor I like and I am wondering if you can guess who. This film is loosely based on werewolves and how they fit into Los Angeles. Cursed (2005) has a young semi Hollywood feel and an amazing cast being horrifically scared with some added comic relief.
The Plot
A Young woman Ellie (Christina Ricci – Adams Family and Sleepy Hollow) is living and working in Los Angeles. She is responsible for her younger brother Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg – Batman v’s Superman and Now You See Me). Whilst driving home one night they swerve to avoid an animal and hit another driver Becky (Shannon Elizabeth – American Pie). Furthermore the animal attacks Becky and then injures both Ellie and Jimmy in the process shaking them up a little.
Ellie and Jimmy are struggling with some weird stress after the accident including some weird cravings and sleep walking. Ellie continues with work as a talk show assistant under a power-hungry boss Joanie (Judy Greer – Ant-man). She also has a boyfriend Jake (Joshua Jackson – Dawson’s Creek and Fringe) who owns a hollywood wax work business.
Jimmy on the other hand is in high school bullied by Bo (Milo Ventimiglia – Heroes and This Is Us) a high school jock. Equally important to him is the girl he is trying to impress who is dating Bo. Not to mention that he is also finding that he is waking up naked in the wilderness and has more strength than he used to. Jimmy being worried starts to look into the animal attack and begins to suspect he and his sister are turning into wolves.
Ellie isn’t in charge
Ellie is being made to network at a party by her boss Joanie and socialize with a potential Guest. The potential guest is Scott Baio (Happy Days and Diagnosis Murder) played of course by himself. In addition to the work meeting Ellie is plagued by Jake and rumours about an ex of his by a girl called Jenny (Mya – Chicago) who likes to talk. In the light of all things happening a visit from a wacky psychic Zela (Portia de Rossi – Scandal) is all Ellie needs and it proves she isn’t handling things all that well.
Without giving away too much to the film and I havent I promise. The film will have you guessing who the lead wolf could be and what their agenda is. Who will survive to the end and also what parts of werewolf folklore do they follow. You will be kept guessing all the way through so let’s get to the music.
