Shadowhunters – Thy Soul Instructed Spoiler Free Preview

Welcome back Angels, it’s time to take a peek at the next episode in this Shadowhunters – Thy Soul Instructed Spoiler Free Preview.

I’m pretty much subtitling this preview “How I fell in love with a new character in under 30 seconds” because that totally happened.

There is a LOT going on with this show right now. It’s not all happy sunshine and shipping roses. I’m not going to mention ships in this preview, because I didn’t feel they were a major factor in this episode, other than to say Malec, Clace and Saia are still couples. Moving on…

Heavy themes

Things are really starting to heat up this episode and there are some pretty heavy themes including mental health that get discussed pretty frankly. Jace (Dominic Sherwood)’s declining state is really starting to affect everyone around him, and it’s awful watching him trying to deal with it, without knowing what we all know. I came out of this episode desperate to hug Jace and tell him it’s going to be okay.

There’s also a fiery conversation between Maia (Alisha Wainwright) and Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) regarding prejudice and changing attitudes. Maia is pissed that Luke kicked Simon (Alberto Rosende) out and won’t even try and change the ingrained hatred between wolves and vamps. Luke is trying to do what is best for the most possible people, i.e. his pack, as he knows he can’t things overnight.

Parabatai Time!

I know I’ve had a lot of people message me asking about Jace and Alec (Matthew Daddario) interacting so far this season and GOOD NEWS – they do in this episode. It’s not the cheeriest of conversations, but it’s substantial. It’s REALLY good to see them interact, although I was hoping for more. There’s a glimmer of the parabatai we knew in the first two seasons there. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there is plenty to come, because it’s clear Alec is not going to let things go in terms of Jace’s secret.

Another new arrival

After introducing Lilith (Anna Hopkins) and Charlie (Brooks Darnell) at the start of the season, we meet another new character in this episode. If you’ve seen the promo pictures, you’ll know who I mean. His entrance is definitely memorable. And adorable. And marks the launch of a new bromance that blossoms FAST!

Bloody crazy!

Raphael (David Castro)’s little experiment Heidi (Tessa Mossey) is officially off the reservation. I guess it could be argued she has a pretty good reason though given he was using her as a lab rat. Raphael has really been put through the mill in this and the last episode. I really hope the poor dude catches a break soon.

It’s also really cool to see Clary and Izzy investigating Heidi’s trail of destruction. They have a major badass moment that left me yelling “YESSSSSSS” at my screen!

Cliffhanger

The episode ends with a couple of cliffhanger scenes that made me squeak. The last one in particular I will be very interested to see how it plays out, especially in light of a lot of fan theories that have been buzzing around all through hiatus. The final scene between Izzy (Emeraude Toubia) and Raphael is setting up some interesting potential conflict. And Luke makes a phone call that made me yelp with glee.

Shadowhunters – Thy Soul Instructed airs on Freeform on Tuesday April 10th at 8/7c and we will be live tweeting as usual. The episode will then be available worldwide on Wednesday April 11th on Netflix.
