Finally we hear some news on the Rob front, well news that is not either bogus or infringing on his personal life. With filming for The Childhood of a Leader done and in post production and The Lost City of Z in pre-production, work related news has been few and far between.
Today though, casting news for Harmony Korine’s The Trap was announced. Rob has been interested in starring in a Korine movie for a while, so this seems to be the break he’s been looking for. The star-studded cast, so far, seems to include Benicio Del Toro, Al Pacino, Pattinson, and James Franco. Idris Elba will be replacing Jamie Foxx.
Set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene, “The Trap” finds Del Toro playing an ex-con out for revenge against a gangster rapper and former friend (Elba) who let him take the fall for a robbery they committed 14 years earlier. (The Wrap)
Pattinson will portray a surfer that helps Del Toro get revenge, while Franco will play Elba’s manager and Pacino a parole officer.
Focus Features is in negotiations to buy the US rights to the film, while Lionsgate will handle international, possibly trying to shop the project at the Cannes Film Festival.
Will we have another year of Cannes Rob? One can only hope!!
