Let’s just jump right into this, Ben (Alex Roe) called Decker (Ron Yuan) to come help Donna (Sibongile Mlambo) because health was failing due to the gunshot wound. Decker was all too willing to help, if only to get to see Donna and to ask her to sing for him again. But Ryn (Eline Powell) and Helen (Rena Owen) quickly put an end to his wishes. Explaining to him that she didn’t sing to him because she loved him, she sang to get her freedom. Not what he wanted to hear. He even questions Ben about his relationship with Ryn. Ben didn’t give him the answers he wanted.
Sadly Decker thought he could help, but he only made Donna worse. Saying good-bye to Donna really hurt. Her last minutes of life with Ryn really made me turn on the water works.

Ryn comes out and tells everyone that Donna has passed . Not a dry eye in the house except for Decker. He seems to snap and leave. Taking a drive to the beach, he kills himself. Which I did not see coming.
Family History
Ryn explains she can’t take Donna’s body to the sea as a final resting place. Helen steps in to help and tells her she knows a place. She takes them to a place in the woods not far from the water’s edge and it is little burial ground. Then she drops the bomb and tells all that we have waited to hear, ever since she said she was a mermaid.

Along with revealing to Ben and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbloa) that she was a mermaid. She also tells Ben how they are related. She explains the whole finally history and how she is not a full mermaid but like one sixteenth. Such a small amount she can’t even change.

Siren Song
This siren song is not joke. It is like the new drug on the streets. One hit and you are an addict. Such is the case for Ben and the recently departed Decker. Ben is so hooked on Ryn’s song that he is now seeing and hearing things that aren’t even there. He is tripping so hard that he takes his boat out into the middle of the ocean thinking he hears Ryn. This fool jumps offs his boat with no tanks. Damn near kills himself, but luckily Ryn swims in for the rescue.

Home
After burying Donna, Ryn decides she is going to stay on land. Helen explains to her then she will become more human after more time on land. But where is home? Not with Ben and Maddie because they seem to be on a “break”. Maddie has had enough of how Ben has been acting and she told him she needed space. Maddie went to stay with her dad.
Ryn tells Ben she is going to stay but she isn’t going to stay with him. She is going to stay with Helen. She explains to him that she doesn’t wanna hurt him.
“Ben is love. Maddie is love too.”
Seriously, my heart was breaking all over again. Poor Ben, Poor Maddie, Poor Ryn, Hell poor me. That was one hell of a way to end the first season. And now the waiting has begun. It’s a long way to 2019 Season Two, but I guess until then I will just have to binge watch over and over and over.
See ya around the Cove. PurpleBrina Out.
