Aww, Hell
A jailer comes to The Saint of Killer’s(Graham McTavish) cell, where he is watching his family die and be eaten by crows over and over. The devil wants to make a deal(There are no golden fiddles). The Saint has to capture some escapees to get his weapons back.
More of The Tombs
To save Cassidy(Joseph Gilgun), Jesse(Dominic Cooper) threw him into The Tombs. Now it’s time for Cassidy to fight the vice principal to the death. If the vice principal wins, he gets his soul back. Allegedly, because I don’t think Gran’Ma(Betty Buckley) is gonna give that up. But as Jody(Jeremy Childs) is the final fight, she never has to worry. Luckily, Cassidy wins(and in a very Tucker and Dale move, asks the dead man if he is ok). Jesse knows that if Cassidy keeps winning, he’ll eventually face Jody, and that Cassidy won’t survive.
Boxing Cassidy
Jesse hacks Cassidy into pieces and throws him in the back of Jody’s truck, sneakily planning on shipping him back to New Orleans under the guise of getting frozen yogurt while Jody heads to the liquor store. It almost works, but Cassidy gets himself together and thinks outside of his box(sorry about that pun).
He returns to The Tombs in the middle of a sermon by Jesse, and Jesse gives him a beat down, begging him to stay down. As Tulip(Ruth Negga) enters The Tombs, she sees Jesse impale Cassidy(but not fatally, y’all).
Tulip Gets Madame Boyd’s Backstory
We find why Madame Boyd(The lovely Prema Cruz) hates Jesse so much. They were makeout buddies until TC(Colin Cunningham) reveals he knows where Jesse is really going instead of watching Gladiator over and over at the theater. To protect her, he cruelly rejects her. Not knowing his gesture, her brother takes offense and Jesse is forced to fight him in The Tombs. We see Tulip put a gun to Madame’s head and tell her to get out of the car.
Tulip picks up Cassidy, and takes him to the bus stop to go to New Orleans. He is tempted to use the love draught to get her to leave with him, but does not, and gets on the bus.
Going back to Jesse, Tulip gets the truth.
Oh, and she wakes up, suddenly remembering she had put an unharmed Madame Boyd in her car trunk.
Thoughts on The Tombs
As always, Cassidy has a lot of ideas about the subject at hand. And we find he is right on one point later on in a very Men in Black faced way.
Damn that love spray!
Dammit, TC, stop making me laugh!
TC has all kinds of blood.
Hell looked kinda meh, except for the VFX. Really missing Dave Blass’s set design full of Easter eggs.
The devil’s dialogue was just kinda meh, too. I don’t think the devil would be trying that hard, but I am a Constantine fan, so that’s what I am basing my comic devil from.
Loved the chemistry between Prema and Ruth. Love how slippery Madame Boyd’s words are.
