Preacher Episode 3X07: “Hilter”

Nope, I didn’t spell that wrong. Maxi Grinders did.

Hitler(Noah Taylor) has gotten a job making subs. Considering the most famous sub shop in the world unwittingly had a pedophile as a spokesperson, this is not a stretch. A brace legged Hitler aka Hilter has gotten together a new evil plan for world domination, and has his co-workers all worked up.

Saint of Killers Does Not Eat Fresh

Hitler/Hilter is writing out his detailed plans on napkins, The Saint of Killers(Graham McTavish) shows up, Eugene(Ian Colletti) in tow. Hitler/Hilter doesn’t want to go back to hell, and just as important, Eugene sees that he wasn’t the penitent man he had pretended to be. Saint gives the creepy manager a bloody smack down, and they are on their way.

Voodoo Viking Funeral

Jesse(Dominic Cooper) and Tulip(Ruth Negga) give Madame Boyd(Prema Cruz) a fitting sendoff. Setting her corpse alight while letting her sail into the swamp is pretty badass. And very polluting. As they watch her float and burn, The Grail arrives.

One Crazy Ass Alliance For Soul-Soul-Soulios

Herr Starr(Pip Torrens) needs Jesse, and is forced to work with a calculating Gran’Ma(Betty Buckley) to get what he wants. Gran’Ma needs souls, lots of souls. Jesse needs Genesis. TC(Colin Cunningham) wants to fix Featherstone’s(Julie Ann Emery) nose that Tulip destroyed. The Genesis is mentioned in front of TC, and he is told it is a band-in unison by Featherstone and Tulip.

Keep Your Receipts

To get the souls, Tulip, Featherstone, and Jody(Jeremy Childs) have to go to Osaka. Tulip isn’t keen on the idea, and is worried about Cassidy(Joseph Gilgun). Jesse reassures her, and we see the trio on a plane, with a great sushi restaurant in mind. But keep those receipts, admonishes Herr Starr, who then pretends to take a call to avoid TC. TC awkwardly stands by him, waiting for him to finish his pretend call in the funniest bit this episode.

Cassidy Fights The Grail

Hoover(Malcolm Barrett) has another idea on how to procure Cassidy, and uses a code phrase to reach a group of elite fighting priests and nuns. The plan fails, however; shooting Cassidy with tranqs is just about as effective as shooting him with saline. Eccarius(Adam Croasdell) is with him, and the two share a kiss.

A Field of Ashes

We find that Eccarius isn’t sending his acolytes to open new chapters of Vampire Scientology(You have to watch the voiceover mid episode). Instead, he is feeding on the nascent vamps and dumping them into a sunny patch of land. He dumps the latest body and goes to snuggle with Cassidy in their coffin.

The Elevator Door Opens

In a newly relocated Grail headquarters, Herr Starr explains that he needs Jesse to kill the All Father(Jonny Coyne). The elevator the two are in opens, Herr’s gun goes to Jesse’s head, and there is The All Father…

Sparkly Toes and What Gran’Ma Knows

TC is painting Gran’Ma’s toenails in a new color. He asks her about Genesis, and after she tells him he is “simpler than a box of empty baskets,” she realizes he doesn’t mean the first book of the Bible. Gran’Ma knows what Genesis is.

Thoughts on “Hilter”
  • Loved Madame Boyd’s sendoff.
  • A couple of Willy Wonka references this week.
  • How did Herr know Tulip’s size?
  • The fact that TC can’t be on a plane because he is on a watch list is hilarious in a show where our introduction to Cassidy is him on a plane, killing people.
  • The promise Starr makes Jesse make is shrewd, but also shows that Jesse is still an honorable man.
  • Tulip and Jesse forever, y’all.
  • “Now that was a sucker punch”. God, I love Tulip.
  • Tulip makes Grail poly blend suits look good.
  • TC is my favorite character this season. Waiting for him to get sinister.
  • Poor Hoover! He is trying so hard!
  • Featherstone trying to have a tender moment with Starr after Tulip and Jesse’s moment is a hilarious comeuppance.
  • The romance between Eccarius and Cassidy feels a bit forced. But it may important for the final three episodes, especially since The Grail knows about Eccarius now.
  • Hilter as a disguise name. Same hair and mustache, but David Hilter works.
  • Gran’Ma dripping her catheter on Herr’s shoe to test his mettle. Stone cold.
  • Starr’s penis beanie-nuff said.
