Orlando Bloom Might Return To “Pirates of the Caribbean 5”

While promoting his latest release, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, star Orlando Bloom took a few moments to share an update on Disney’s upcoming fifth Pirates of the Caribbean adventure. While he doesn’t confirm that he’ll actually be in the film, he does say that talks for him to return are currently ongoing, which means a return is more likely than not. Bloom also goes on to add that the fifth film may in fact be a soft reboot of sorts shifting the focus from the characters of the original trilogy to a whole new set of characters, including his son, who we caught a glimpse of during the post-credits scene in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

“I’m not entirely sure that [I’ll be back] just yet, but there are talks,” Bloom said. “Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.

I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly.”

(SPOILER ALERT!!)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End post-credits scene that, according to the film’s writers, suggests that Will is now free of his duty as the captain of the Dutchman. That could easily be made canon, but it depends on how Will is integrated into the story for Pirates of the Caribbean 5… assuming Bloom does come back, that is. There’s also the question of how Keira Knightley as Elizabeth would fit into all this, should Bloom as Will return to the fold.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is expected to hit theaters July 7, 2017 and Johnny Depp is the only major star from the first films who is confirmed for the fifth installment.

Geoffrey Rush may also come back to play Barbossa, while Javier Bardem is rumoured to be portraying a brand new villain named Captain Brand.

Dead Men Tell No Lies will be directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki).
