Netflix’ YOU Season 1 – Review

This new year began with a bunch of new shows and movies on Netflix. One of them was YOU! I binge watched the whole first season over one weekend and I was hooked! That’s when I had the idea of doing a review of the first season to let you know my thoughts. So continue reading to find out more!

A clever bookstore manager relies on his savvy Internet know-how to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him. Based on the novel by Caroline Kepnes.
The show stars Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, Elizabeth Lail as Guinevere Beck and Shay Mitchell as Peach Salinger.
Dear Joe!
Let’s just start with my first thought when I watched the trailer YOU! I was like heeeeeey it’s Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl, what just happened? Into the first episodes I had a familiar feeling between Joe and Dan. But after a while I was like “come on he was bitchy in Gossip Girl but now he’s just totally insane”. Come on guys.. in the beginning it was all kinda cute how he looked over Beck and to hear his thoughts and all. BUT right away when he was watching her from the other side of the street I was like dude what the hell is wrong with you.
We had some interactions through the next episodes and then there was Benji.. I knew from the first second when Joe saw him and Beck that Benji wouldn’t last long. I’m sorry but I just had that feeling.

That brings me to the creepy glass box in the cellar of the bookstore. It was all nice and understandable to keep the old and special books in good quality BUT what we didn’t know until then was that this will be the box of hell for some people. LOL
Oh my dear Peach!
Peach.. YAY for Shay Mitchell in a new show after Pretty Little Liars. She was great in this new show tho! But little Joe wasn’t so happy with her being Beck’s best friend and kinda obsessive over her. First I thought she’s a good friend taking care of Beck and looking after her – well I thought wrong – as Joe showed us in the next few episodes (creepy little Peach right there). I mean what was “A” compared to Joe?.. “A” doesn’t look so bad now does she? LOL

THE WEEKEND IN THE HOUSE!
After Peach tried to kill herself – all well planned by her to be honest – she and Beck drove to that insanely beautiful house where they spent some quality time. We all expected that Joe wouldn’t just stay at home reading didn’t we?! So of course he followed them.
Peach inviting that old friend of Beck was a great idea of her.. a little bit of drugs and the party was right on. Poor Peach tried to make out with Beck coz that’s what she wanted all along .. wrong thought their dear Peach.. Beck wasn’t into it that much even though she wasn’t all herself in that moment.
I guess we all knew that this whole thing would end in some kind of drama. But what i didn’t expect was that it would end like that. A gun involved was already a bad sign but Joe sneaking around in the house wasn’t a good sign either.

The fight between Joe and Peach was fast and predictable don’t you think? Peach being shot during the fight was great for Joe.. I mean it was self defense don’t you understand that Beck?
BECK KNOWS!
I kinda saw it coming that they find their way back to each other after they broke up. And that’s what happened after a few episodes..
It wasn’t such a big surprise that after a while Beck found the box in Joe’s bathroom. Of course she was shocked as hell – who wouldn’t be?

Joe keeping Beck in that creepy box in the cellar was sick! “You should thank me, this is your opportunity to write!” (Yes Joe that’s what every normal person out there would think in that situation!!).
POOR BECK!
I think it was clear after half of the season that Beck wouldn’t make it out alive. In my opinion they did a good job on ending this first season even so Beck had to die.
We will have a second season who will be placed in L.A. I am definitely curious to find out who Joe will fall in love with next. And we can expect to learn a lot more of his past after his supposed to be dead ex girlfriend Candace showed up in the last episode! I am excited and curious what will happen in season two!
