My Isekai Life “I Wanted To Protect The Town” Review
My Isekai Life “I Wanted To Protect The Town” is the first episode of the novel series by the same name. Originally published on the site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The series very quickly took of and was published as a light novel, then a manga and finally got it’s anime adaptation. This episode takes place in “Phastan” where the always on the move tamer and mage Yuji decides to settle down after some time on the road, plus sell the Drya flowers he set out to get. Everything goes smoothly until the town receives notice that there’s a swarm of zombie-like monsters coming their way. The towns adventurers choose to fight but Yuji knows they’ll never win so he makes up a lie that he can use an old dragon bone to summon dragon fire and that should wipe them out. The town stands and Yuji secretly uses his magic in combination with his multiple slimes to put a barrier around it and flame all of the enemies, twice. He even uses magic to purify some sort of gem too, with the help of team Dryad.
Review
This is a typical Isekai and that’s not entirely a bad thing I don’t think. Yuji has very little personality but I think that will likely be explained or at the very least, expanded upon. The slimes are adorable and Lone wolf is so cute. His communication with Yuji is great and they’re clearly close. Whatever Yuji does and whatever his secret is, he’s clearly good at it. There are a ton of questions but I’m already having fun with this show. It’s not too much or too little and I’ve a feeling it’ll open up more after the initial 2 episodes.
Really the only complaint I have is the animation, it’s very bad at times, in fact it’s embarrassingly bad at times but sometimes looks really good. It’s hard to judge because it’s not consistent at all.
