I am sure you have heard of Marian Hill because one of their songs, “Down”, was featured in an Apple commercial last year I believe. Recently I have been streaming music at work and I came across their station, making me fall in love. I had to find out more about this Duo.
Marian Hill is a duo made up of Jeremy Lloyd and Samantha Gongol, both from Philadelphia. Their band name is a mix of two characters from the musical “The Music Man“, Marian Paroo and Harold Hill. The group has put music out since 2013 with their first EP Play. Their second EP Sway came out in 2015. Act One was their first album and it was released in 2016. But their big break was when Apple used their song “Down” in a commercial for Airpods.
What I love about their music, it is a mix of hiphop, R&B, and jazz. I love Samantha’s voice. It’s hauntingly beautiful and I could just get lost in her voice. Seriously love their style and lyrics. I wanna dance, sing and like do yoga and relax when I hear their songs. Let me share some of my favorites with you.
Of course I have to start with “Down” cause it has the most addicting beat. Can’t help but wanna dance when I hear it.
I love music and songs because of what they say more than what they sound like. Lyrics are the way to my heart when it comes to music. If the lyrics are solid and meaningful then I will love that song. I love “One Time” cause of the lyrics. Have a listen.
I love me some Whiskey when I drink, so course I would love a song titled the same thing. “Whisky” is a fun song.
One of my favorite TV shows is Lucifer (which is coming to Netflix soon) and the folks over there have excellent choice in music, as they had Marian Hill on the soundtrack. “Breathe Into Me” really lets you hear Samantha’s haunting voice. Seriously love her voice.
Dance music tops a lot of things I love and this song fits the bill. The video for “I Want You” features an amazing dance routine. Not flashy with booty shaking, but fun dancing.
“Lips” I think this one might be my favorite by far. I just love everything about this song.
I missed them when they toured last year, but I will be doing my damnedest to see them when they come to San Diego area. They have a few tour dates in AZ next year, but I am hoping more are posting soon.
Well that’s it for this Music Monday. Let me know what you think of this amazing duo below. Until next week, catch ya on the B-side.
Here is where to find them.
