Madonna

Madonna to me is not only a music Icon but also a Fashion icon.  She is not only known for her music but film and business capabilities as well.  Born and raised in Michigan in the United States she eventually moved to New York where she pursued a career in modern dance.

In 1982 she signed on with Sire Records and produced her first album titled Madonna.  This album was obviously succesful as another 12 albums have followed it since.  Tracks from this first Album include Borderline, Holiday and Everybody.

Career for all time

The next Album she released was Like Virgin in 1984 and this had hits including Like  Virgin, Material Girl and Into the Groove.

In 1985 Madonna starred in a film Called Desperately Seeking Susan alongside the amazing Rosanna Arquette. Madonna played Susan a New York drifter and Rosanna Arquette plays Roberta a Bored house wife who gets mistaken for her when she has amnesia.  Into the Groove is on the film’s soundtrack showing she could mix both aspects of her life with confidence.

In 1987 not Only did Madonna star in Whose that Girl but she had a soundtrack to the film and an album released that year.  Both albums went Platinum in  the United States proving she has a taste for music that appeals to the listeners.

All things considered so far she completed the 80’s by releasing her 4th album Like a Prayer.  This became her third no 1 on Americas billboard 200 which led her to achieve Quadruple Platinum status.  The video for the album’s title song did not ring true with all as it was showing some religious aspects that upset some people.  It’s a song I love as it has meaning as well as the choir aspect making it more than just a song.

The 90’s

In the same fashion as the 80’s with its style the 90’s changed and so did Madonna and her music.  Some of the albums showed an edgier more grown up feel to them showing as her career grew so did the music.  She released the Immaculate collection which was her first greatest hits album.

Given these points albums released include I’m Breathless her 2nd soundtrack this was for Dick Tracey which she again starred in.  Erotica, Bedtime Stories and Something to Remember were released in the early 90’s.  Ray of light was released late 90’s along with a soundtrack for Evita.  Ray of light was a change to the music again as the music scene was changing and it showed she could keep up with the times.

Evita

In 1996 Madonna starred in a hit Musical called Evita.  Based on the life of a B actress named Eva Duarte who married the President of Argentina Juan Peron.  She was an equally loved and hated woman by the people of Argentina.  The film won an Oscar and 3 Golden Globes including a Golden Globe for Best Actress for Madonna.  In short this showcased both acting and singing talents for her and the cast.

More Recently

Finally will visit a couple of songs from the naughties to present.  I have to admit there are so many of madonna songs that we can’t cover them all.  2000 onwards she released some amazing music and in the long run has sold over 3 million records worldwide.  Music, American Life, Confessions on a Dance floor and Hard Candy were released in the naughties again changing with the times.

In the teens up until now she is still releasing music showing she has spanned 4 decades of change.  MDNA and Rebel Heart have been released recently as well as Celebration in 2009 which was her 3rd greatest hits album.  Overall in my mind she is one of the most successful female artists of all time and she has the numbers to prove it.  so lets finish with 3 more songs from these recent albums before we go.
