Music Monday: Celebrating the U.S.A.

U.S.A

Celebrating the U.S.A.

In a few days, we here in America will be Celebrating the U.S.A., as it is the 4th of July, our Independence day. Our country is a bit out of sorts lately and we need to come together and remember what and who we are, A great country. Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. I figured I would do a post on some of the great songs that celebrate the U.S.A. It will be a bit of a mixed bag, but it will make you feel good and maybe remember why you are proud to be an American.

I am gonna start this off with some rock. Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman“. I love this song and come on who doesn’t love a giant flag and some beautiful chick on a car dancing…..everything about this is American.

I know this one is a little is a bit of an earworm, but I can’t help but love this song. It makes you wanna dance. So don’t hate me too much for this one by Miley Cyrus, “Party in the U.S.A“.

I love this next group. There is just something about their songs and the lead singer’s voice. Imagine Dragons song, “America” is a beautiful song. Listen to those lyrics.

Country

I know most folks don’t like country music, but I do. Oddly enough most of the songs that go with my theme for this blog are country songs. So deal with it.

Next up is Mr. American Country Boy himself, Toby Keith. He has few songs that are very patriotic but I only picked two.  “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)”  was written was after 9/11 and it is one powerful song.

The second song is called “American Solider“; which again is another powerful song. One of my favorite things about country music is it tells a story and they always hit you deep. I grew up right next to a Marine Corps Base and I have met so many men and women that fight for our country. I was even fortunate enough to have met a few that gave their lives for our country. So yeah, this song hits home a little bit.

Oldies But Goodies

I am going back to 80s and giving you two of my favorites from that time frame. James Brown and Bruce Springsteen are both musical legends. They both had equal epic hits with their songs about America.

Bruce’s song is “Born in the U.S.A.” It is an iconic song, that is always played this time of year.

James’s song is a little more flashy and dancey, less rock then Bruce, but just as amazing. “Living in America” was off the soundtrack of Rocky IV. When Rocky, played by Sylvester Stallone had to fight the big Russian, Drago played by Dolph Lundgren.

This one is an oldie but a goody by Mr. Ray Charles “America the Beautiful“. It’s just perfect.  I can’t say enough about how much I love this one.

I am going to end this one with my favorite verse of our national anthem sung by the late great Whitney Houston. She sang this on the Super Bowl XXV back in 1991. This one gets me every time.

Happy 4th of July America! Have fun, Be Safe and Take care of each other. Catch ya on the B-side.
