Mieruko Chan “Things She’s Seen Before” Review
Mieruko Chan “Things She’s Seen Before” is the ninth episode of the Mieruko Chan anime. Following the cliff-hanger at the end of episode 8. Miko decides that she and she alone needs to keep her friends Hana and Yulia safe from Zen.
Review
After bumping into her in the girl’s toilets. Miko, Hana and Yulia form an unlikely trio going to a haunted house in order to win 20 free doughnuts. The whole time they’re there Hana freaks out but Miko sees it as an opportunity to become more courageous in the presence of ghosts. It finally occurs to her that she can do and say what she normally would to a ghost here and it wouldn’t look suspicious. So when she comes across one at the end of the maze. That’s exactly what she does. Miko screams at it to just leave her alone and it stands there perplexed. Another hint that perhaps she’s making the problem bigger in her head than it actually is. Also a sign that some of them do listen and aren’t all trying to harm people.
Miko doesn’t notice any of this though because she runs away. Exaggeratedly, like she would from the ghosts if she had a choice. The episode ends with Miko suggesting an even bigger haunted house next time. Clearly feeling that it’s a place she can finally be free. And Yulia mistaking it for a test.
This was a great episode. Slowly but surely building up the main trio’s characterisation. Whilst in the background giving small hints about Zen but keeping him mysterious. I like that Miko has found an outlet for her stress but I very much doubt she can carry on pretending the way she does for long.
