Katherine McNamara joins Arrow Season 7

In her first role since the cancellation of Shadowhunters was announced, Katherine McNamara is joining the cast of Arrow in its seventh season.

According to TVLine, McNamara will appear in the first half of the seventh season of the CW show. Her character, Maya, is described as a thief and street fighter from Star City. The unofficial casting notice for the character called her “Buffy the Superhero Slayer”. Presumably this is going to bring her into conflict with Team Arrow at some point.

Shadowhunters fans will know that Kat is no stranger to fight scenes, kicking serious demon butt for the last three years as Clary Fray in the show. This news will no doubt be bittersweet for the Shadowhunters fandom, who are still fighting to save the show from its untimely demise 3 months ago. Hearing that the lead actress has moved on to a new project will probably be quite upsetting for some. I know it gave me a little bit of a happy/sad moment.

McNamara has worked on other projects whilst she was part of Shadowhunters, most notably appearing as Sonja in The Max Runner: The Death Cure which came out earlier this year.

Shadowhunters still has another 12 episodes due to air, so expect to see quite a lot of Miss McNamara in forthcoming months. We will keep you posted if we hear more about her role on Arrow, and also as and when an airdate for Shadowhunters remaining episodes is announced.

Arrow season 7 premieres on The CW on October 15th at 8/7c.
