New ‘Jurassic World’ featurette take you back to ‘Jurassic Park’

As June 12 nears, the anticipation for Jurassic World continues to grow. Universal released a new Jurassic World featurette that makes that unfortunate mistake of comparing Steven Spielberg’s classic 1993 film to the upcoming sequel. The franchise’s fourth installment features a fully operational version of John Hammond’s park, which now includes the Hammond Creation Lab, the facility responsibility for combining the genetic traits of multiple species to create the Indominus Rex.

In this featurette, the cast members and director Colin Trevorrow talk about how they were inspired and awestruck by Jurassic Park, and also has Spielberg saying how Jurassic World takes it a step further. There’s footage from both movies, and I’ve finally figured out why the effects in Jurassic Park, a movie that’s over 20 years old, look better. The dinosaurs in Jurassic Park have more texture. They move a little more slowly, but that lets you see the attention to detail. Trevorrow has packed the screen with shiny, pristine-looking dinos that move at a rapid clip. That being said, a movie becomes more immersive when you care about the story and characters, and I don’t know how that will shake out yet with Jurassic World.

Check out the Jurassic World featurette below. The film opens in 3D on June 12th, and stars Chris PrattBryce Dallas HowardNick RobinsonTy SimpkinsVincent D’OnofrioIrrfan Khan, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy and Judy Greer.
